New Witches movie in the works

Directed by Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump). Anne Hathaway will star in it as the grand witch.

In both the Roah Dahl book and 1990 movie all the witches transform into mice at the end. Robert Zemeckis is a big fan of CGI and quirky effects. I wonder how they’ll handle the TF scene.

We'll have the fanciest CGI poof TFs the world has ever seen. What we're not likely to get to see is a group of women slowly shrinking out of their clothes as they turn into animals, especially not someone as hot as Anne Hathaway, as she's the main villain and would get extra detail on her transformation. It's all going to be obfuscated by heavy glowing smoke, and maybe there will be clothes on the floor afterwards for the mice to scurry out of but I doubt even that. If the clothes come off it might be considered somehow sexual and that just won't do in this modern era.

Well technically in the book the clothes transform with the person.

So if they go by the book and not draw inspiration from the previous film we will get just what I predicted then, glowing smoke hiding every detail of the TF and not even a pile of empty clothes afterwards. I'll stick to the 90s movie version in that case as at least there was something to see.

Most probable scenario. Totally agree with the prediction.

I just hope they don't mess with the ending. That's what brought down the first the movie.

If the new movie doesn’t really show shrinking out of clothes, the. I doubt if I really would like it.

First trailer is out. TF seems to be of the cheap CGI smoke/poof type. However it looks like clothes won't change and we will see at least piles of empty clothes at the end.

First movie also never touched the other transformations described in the book at the beginning - girl in the painting, girl to chicken, etc. Probably no joy this time, but we'll see.

girl in the painting was mentioned in the first movie.

Yep, and it was a friend of the boy’s grandmother. Plus some parts might not make it in the film due to time constraints.

Re: New Witches movie in the works

It appears the characters seem to fly up into the air as they change. Covering them in cgi boils in an attempt to make the transformation more grotesque and less... fetish inducing. It's a neat idea but I bet this will just fuel the boil fetishists. Are there boil fetishists? Meh, if they don't exist then they will now.

Side note, anyone notice the Glasgow smile on the Grand High Witch? I was expecting this to be part of her mask, or hiding some hideously large cgi mouth... but then we see a very underwhelming burned face in one shot of the Grand High Witch's true face. Shame.

I saw that and kind of dig it. Then again, I always thought Dr. Blight was hot, face scar and all.

And yet its a different witch who tempts the child with a serpent. Unless all the witches are serpents?

I dunno this sounds like an aesthetic mess like most kids movies and the only person who can make good kids movies is Joe Cormish and apparently they're using his magic to film the unfilmable Snow Crash, so Witches will have to be a wash.

Re: New Witches movie in the works

As expected, the original is better. Bunch of poof TFs that inexplicably involve launching the person into the air. During the mass TF every witch is wearing the same black dress so they could reuse the same weak poof out of dress animation over and over just from different angles. At least the original had process, variety in clothing that was shrunk out of, and acknowledged the existence of underwear. Hell, in the original some of the witches had lingerie that was left on the floor after they transformed. If anyone was looking forward to this one for TF content, you can skip it.

As usually, not unexpected. Thanks for the review!!

Really? I was hoping for a huge Drunken Master III style fight scene involving an Abacus at the end... Guess I''ll always be dreaming.

There's a new tf scene with a girl turning into a chicken, but sadly unspectacular executed. And still it's the best scene compared to the mouse tfs that don't even try to reach the level of quality the scenes in the original movie had.

Nostalgia Critic released a review of the original Witches yesterday.

I left that out because that girl is like 8 years old. The content people were hoping for was the women to mice scene at the end and it was disappointing.

The only remake that's been better than the original is 'Cat People' .

Isn't there supposed to be a sequel to Willow in the works? We probably won't get the hot female pig TF we have all longed for, but hey, we can hope. Amirite or amirite?

Haven't heard anything about a sequel, and have no reason to expect there would be a TF scene in it even if it were made.

A Willow sequel was announced for Disney+ a few days ago, but there are minimal details beyond that as to content.

Few changes were ok like the introduction of "new" character to the main cast and the more bitter ending which made more sense... But it's not really a "horror" film, nor the TFs was horrifying and had the same impact like the original.

It's a Willow TV Series AFAIK.

Stay on topic. :D

J/k, your attempt to stay on topic is commendable but...

I highly doubt the Willow sequel will feature any pig TFs. And besides, any TFs will likely be a cgi mess.

To be honest I wouldn’t mind seeing a Walt Disney Animation Studios adaptation of The Witches.

Yeah, the article doesn't quite say outright exactly what the deal was, but their hands looked more like "normal human hands that are missing fingers" than something particularly fantastical.

Re: New Witches movie in the works

So, the remake has been a very expected failure in terms of TF content. And yes, keep in mind that this is the tendancy for future similar works, e.g., as Circe said, a Willow show will not probably have a pig tf scene, and that would be done cgi, or male, or offscreen. You keep good memories of those movies, and it is understandable. But those were also other times. You'll have to deal with it sooner or later. Meanwhile, have a fresh dish of self-cooked deception.
