The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
Hey guys-
If you could pick 4 of the best TF artists, who would you choose? 2 categories: TF sequence artists and general TF artists. Thoughts? |

Re: The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
I had an immediate list pop in my head, but giving it a little more thought, I feel like a "Mt. Rushmore" for any field is not just who is the "best" per se, but also a list of who is the most representative or iconic of that field. For instance, the real life Mt. Rushmore features four presidents who all had a hand in major events in the country's history. I think a true list for TF artists would represent those that have had longevity and/or made an impact on the scene. Just something to toss about, and discuss.
My 4 best/favorite:
If I'm making a list for artists who I think are iconic, or stalwarts of the field then that changes things a little. Gryf and Leo still make my list, as almost no one has come close to the quality and style of work that Gryf has done. Plus, he's responsible for two of the best TF animations that have ever been made. Lobo Leo has also been in the game forever, and Alpha Luna is a gold standard as far as TF comic series go. After that, it's a bit harder to pick. I know opinions are split in some circles on her work, but I would put Arania up there. She has the longevity, her site with all of her artwork is a great treasure trove, and she has made some great artwork herself over the years. The fourth spot, I'm mostly undecided. Some names have come to my head, like BlackRat, Angrboda, Chessire88, etc. Hell, I think artists like Liminalbean and Wereworld are trending towards that level, even being relatively newer to the game. |

Re: The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
So hard to narrow it down to four (all artists mentioned so far by other posters are indeed awesome - also, nice to see some old school names), but if four artists were to put out an artbook, I'd probably say 'yes, take my money' to...

Re: The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
Since Mt Rushmore is honoring old school early creators who opened the doors and inspired more generations, I'm going with:
Kemono Inuki - amazing suit-based animal transformations Coffeeman - fantastic drawings (sadly, lost to time it seems) Mako - talented but invaluable as enabler of so many artists through collecting on their site Less Than Human - amazing manipulations A close second: Something-Wild, LoboLeo, Gryf, Rzr444 (like Mako, an enabler of so many more), not sure who the actual artist was behind the Mermaid's Tail site... I'm not sure where to put people like Missa, who really did a lot on the video side that was new and impressive... It occurred to me to add some recognition for current artists that are keeping things amazing like LiminalBean, Morphingu, Solone, Genyun, and more. I feel old. |
Re: The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
Wow, this thread is like a bear trap laid out at your feet with a "please don't mind me" post-it-note attached. For me, I'd have to start with both Ian Williams and Naga from Naga's Den, though I'm surprised Darin hasn't appeared in any lists so far. Third nominated (though not actually in order of quality) would probably be Gryf simply for the quality of TF being so very, very far ahead of the curve. Fourth to me comes down to more recent work, and while I love GenYun's work and I'm so tempted to make that my number four choice, I think I'm going to have to go with BlackShirtBoy. This list is so difficult!!! So my 4 are, in no particular order:
Ian Willams Naga Gryf BlackShirtBoy EDIT: Totally forgot about Ranzab! Can I have a 5th? Also, Pop Fusion is still active but making 3D work under an account called Fyedo. |
Re: The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
I'd say for me that the following are my top picks.
1: Hazard - The first artist I ever saw art from when I joined the community in 2008. 2: Black Rat - Big sexy foot paws, that is all I can really say on him. 3: Edmol - I liked the cartoony style. 4: Nexus - My first ever exposure to photomanipulation art, sadly when I discovered Nexus they were at the end of doing photomanipulations. Honorable mentions for some artists of today and the past: Wereworld: This guy is going to be one of the greats of the modern day. Something-Wild: Another great photomanipulator, I'm still amazed at the level of detail put into each pic. Genyun: I'm not the biggest fan of 3D TF images, they often come out looking a little weird for my tastes but Genyun is one of those rare exceptions as his work always amazes me. Arania: Can't have a list like this without mentioning one of the other early artists I found when starting out on the scene in 2008. |

so "TFF Art" rather then "TF Art" As I recall things 1995-2001 buildup of the TF Webring,Transfur and its associated artist/furry websites, etc More or less TFF artists figured there was money to be had in light fluffy fetish art Though at the time I thought the real 911 event had caused a major decline afterwards nowadays I'd say the decline happened in 2003 to 2009 Dragoniade shut down the Shadowlord site for 4 years Transsfur deleted all furry themed art and the associated artists webpages Yahoo blew away GeoCities and cast off the Web Ring part of it So by 2010 what you were seeing was "orphaned' TFF art floating around the internet without the webpages/websites that had previously existed alongside those line art drawings So Arthur Pearson ( Picklejuice ) Greekel Arania her ability to make economical mass produced TFF art when the overall TFF world was heading for the exits MeanBean had a sensitive Princess>Dragon piece CanneryRat ( ? )/Hyperjet good narrative in the comic sequence of newlyweds with a mother-in-law the witch and a cursed wedding ring |

Wow! even to get a mention alongside these legends is a honor, thanks!

Re: The Mt. Rushmore of TF Artists
Reading this thread makes me wonder something: Is there truly a smaller amount of active TF artists (and TF content creators in general) now in 2020 or is it just my perception that there is a smaller amount? I remember discovering the community around 2005 and it seemed like there were countless quality artists. But maybe I was just discovering stuff that had already been around for a while so it seemed like there was a lot of content.
Now, it seems like I spend a lot of time just searching for TF material. I look through a lot of users' Favorites on Furaffinity to get hipped to works and artists that I may not be familiar with, but I seem to see the same stuff over and over again. There are so many artists I'd love to commission, but it seems like many of them are no longer active or accepting commissions, or they're backlogged so far into the future that I may become an AARP member before they make it to me in their que. Not bitching about anything, but just making an observation and wonder if others have concluded the same. |

As I recall 2005 was when a major collapse occurred The reason I'm sure its 2005 is because 2005 *me* had just watched this tf community go the way of the "nuked parking lot" so my solution in 2006 was to start building the DragonCrypt on GeoCities.Basically a tf video making website using morphing carbon pencil animations so folk could make their own tf video art. Then GeoCities got deleted in October 2009 and that was it for me. |

Man this thread is seriously giving me some nostalgia to my horny teenage years, trying to find fetish porn on the family computer without getting caught. If I had to pick four artists who were most influential in making me the degenerate that I am today I'd have to say in no particular order:
