Skiff, thank you for sharing your thoughts. I did considered them and no, you have not offended me. I have experience this before. Yeah, my characters aren't so original by other people's view but again I did put so much work into them. I did tried to change them. Some time ago, a few people who post at the forum for Lightfoot's site did criticize my characters. That's during the time I entered Lightfoot's comic contest. Their thoughts on them were close as yours. I did a few minor changes like my main character's name and Matt Zenn (A.K.A Very_Zenn of the BEA) drew our entry.
It did won the contest but people still think it should be more original. Because of that, I took that path of making my series more original. Matt, WLP's Kris Overstreet, and myself had a consultation about it and made suggestions on what should we do. We changed the whole series, from the concept of the story and character designs to changing the gender of the main character. Once we started on it, we couldn't make it work for obvious reasons like not having enough free time to work on it. But the one reason that hit me really hard is the familiarity. From the changes we made, its like its not my own series anymore. I tried going over and over on the changes but I cna't seem to come up anything. This is all because of the needs of the people that might read the series. We decided to forfeit our place in the contest and cancel the series and let the second place winner to take our place.
Since then, I thought I would never make a comic or even write a story again. This whole thing started when me and my twin brother tell stories to each other about ourselves, mostly on what we dreamed about and how we see oruselves in the Aniverse. I really got into storytelling but never thought of writing it. That's when I realize what's most important is what I think about my characters and stories, not what other people think. It is my work and if I am happy with it then I shouldn't let myself do what other people suggest me to do with it. I don't expect it to make it for business. I created my characters, requested pics and write strories about them as a way of pleasure, spend my time, and share it to my friends and people of the themes that I'm into. Since then, I kept my characters just the way the are and I had no toruble writing stories about them. Again, Skiff, thank you for sharing your thoughts on my characters, I don't mean to offend you or anything. All I'm saying is that I am not planning to change my characters anytime soon becuase I work so hard into them and keeping them just the way they are. Thank you for your time.
