I believe that the woman at the beginning holds a balloon which symbolizes adulthood and femininity. The child gets her body and genes from her mother's through being in the womb right?. Apon grasping the balloon (which is femininity and adulthood) of her own, she becomes what her mother have gave her.
That is at least what I believe.
