That's correct, the red head gene isn't a dominant gene. Just like the blond gene isn't. When a blond and dark hair couple copulate, the dark gene is the dominate gene. The only way to produce a plethora of red heads would be for both partners to be red heads and have a giant orgy would need to happen every season or so, so a large quantity of offspring is produced. We will then have to wait for the children to grow, and then allow them to copulate at this point allowing for the third generation of red heads to become a more prominent gene pool.

Well it's a bit more complicated in practice.

My father has black hair and his first wife had red. My half brother born from that union has red hair.

My brother's first wife had black hair and they had two kids. Their son has blond hair and their daughter has red.

Yeah, it's confusing...
