Continuously run away.
It is a gamer's compulsion to try something once, fail, try it again, see the same failure message, and assume there is nothing more that can be done. That's what he was aiming for.
Edit: Actually, you don't have to continuously run away. It's a wait event. Just stand there for a bit.
