Originally, Sabrina had hair that was colored with very light yellow highlights, but otherwise white -- she was apparently supposed to be a platinum blonde.
But they've changed the look of the character since the Melissa Joan Hart "Sabrina" series, so I think both you and thrandrall might be right.
(Archie comics were pretty much the only comics I read growing up, and the story Fredthemarine describes sounds
vaguely familiar, but I couldn't tell you any more details, or when it appeared.)
