Besides, I think you're giving the writer way too much credit. Access clearly refers to the merged superheroes as Strangefate's "pawns", so any question of them being driven by the desire for self-survival is shaky at best. My real complaint with this comic is the fact that the amalgamated heroes jump wholeheartedly into attacking Access without ONE of them saying, "Whoa, wait a second." I mean, these people are supposed to be made from heroes, aren't they? As it is, they behave more like brainwashed thugs. Maybe they're just disorientated from the fusion, but that's all the MORE reason why they'd ignore Strangefate's orders, or at the very least simply detain Access until they regained their senses.
Oh, I'm not supporting the writer. I'm entertaining what the viewpoint of alagamated beings would be.

If someone came up to me and showed me I was a fusion of Ma from universe Blahblahblah, and Zoku from universe Deedeedee, I don't think it would bother me so much that I would be willing to be split into two different people (murdered) even if I was told they were there "first". On the other hand, forcibly re-merging two universes and their inhabitants to restore your own is not morally defensible even if from your viewpoint your universe was the original. However it plays out though, someone's going to be surviving at someone else's expense.

There is the point that Amazon (who Superman seemed quite happy to kill to have Wonder Woman back) is the only one from Strangefate's Amalgam universe, the others are apparently artificial, so why are they so gung-ho? Whether his fusion spell was powerful enough to give them enough substance that they're effectively from an alternate Amalgam universe and "real", or they're under some sort of mind-control isn't clear. Perhaps as "creations" of his they simply think the way he wants them to. Strangefate does say they'll do for now, so he probably planned to re-fuse everyone back to the amalgams he knew.

But yes they are acting like characterless goons.

Again, however, Strangefate's worst sin is not using Storm and Wonder Woman to make two more fem-fusions; Green-Storm and Ice-Woman, or something.
