But I have to say this: the "Trollface" smile is in fact a Cheshire cat grin. The basis of the "knowing smile" is actually from the character the Cat from the treasured classic "Through the Looking Glass" from Lewis Carroll, all modernized interpretations do stem from this classic work. Yeah, but I guess (to me at least) the wide eyes and grin of the Cheshire Cat seem less sarcastic and more genuine. The uplifted lower parts of the troll-face eyes and the creased wrinkles give a more chain-pulling expression, like holding in an ulterior motive.
And I've seen people use the Cheshire face as simply a huge smile or a sort of "RP" flair to add to their posts.
