I mean, if you're particularly protective of your work (as WIPO and Berne require you to be to claim copyright), that's one thing.
The issue here seems to be that he aggressively pursued copyright infringment, and got death threats because he cut off the suppliers.
That'd be like threatening BustArtist (not comparing quality here, just business models) because he charges for his works and pursues infringers.
Nobody should be surprised - or, worse, committing misdemeanors (not hyperbole, fuckers, look it up) - because he left.
They've only themselves to blame.

No, I think he was actually mad at the hatemail more than anything. You can hear that in the tone of his original message. His art was free to begin with, so that alone should not have been the deal breaker for him.
Look at everything he said and you will have to conclude that he just didn't like the disapproving emails and took the whole thing way to hard. Do you guys remember gammarai? or whatever her name was? She pulled a similar stunt because of bad reviews, suffered a stroke, and said "IT'S ALL YOUR PEOPLE'S FAULT" and shut down her site. So when I come across these situations, I just shake my head and say, wtf, artist. wtf.
Not only that, but pulling your site and art is exactly what your haters want anyway. By doing that, your just letting them win. Can't let trolls beat you, man. Stiff upperlip and all that.
