Well, I'm a writer, and one of my (geographically) closest friends is a writer. Her and another female friend, eh?
I'd get the writer talking about her stuff and my stuff, that should keep her distracted for a while.
But for both of them, if young adult romantic comedy novels and TV have taught me anything, it's that women can always be distracted when you ask them to talk about themselves.
Keep 'em talking and they'll probably shrink down to a nice, manageable size, right out of their clothes, before they even know it.
