Vernor Vinge's "A Fire Upon the Deep" featured a "power" coming awake and invading a large portion of the galaxy - controlling people like thralls (no real physical change described for the most part that I recall) - the implication was something similar to nanomachine-type controls, but potentially something more low-tech/mental. (It's a great book either way).

See here's what I mean. I have no problem with people who like this stuff but It sounds like the victims of infection remain human, meaning it's NOT roboticization or cyborgization at all. I know you'll argue with me, assume I am just being petulant or that if I ask I shouldn't expect to actually GET what I asked for. and Maybe it is selfish, but maybe I am tried of looking for something I like and what I find isn't what I wanted at all.
and yes thank you odysseusut, that IS what I meant. Sadly.. already knew but you didn't know and maybe someone else looking for this kind of thing hasn't.
and to Chef123 again yes that is what I meant, it's a interesting sequence I actually haven't seen
