A Patreon could help you to "round" you accountancy, but that cannot (and should not) be you main source of income. As far as I am concerned, the typical way is:
1) Get a "normal" job (or more than one) to cover your living expenses and get some money to invest in your future career ->here the Patreon can help you.
2) Use the extra money (from the Patreon, for example) to attend to art classes. forums, expositions, contact to professional artists... it is not only to learn how to paint, design and so on, but also about getting info, peers and entering into the artistic community in your country.
3)After some time (a few years, if you're lucky) you could get decently-paid jobs and you could become a full-time artist.
The artist career is not an easy one, and needs lots of previous work
