The way Visual Novels work is at specific points in the story, you choose what actions the character will take, and this is often in the form of dialogue. Unlike Fallout/Mass Effect, you don't control every conversation. However, the impact of your choices is *much* greater than other games, with the story splitting off into very different directions as an impact of your choices. None of that '300 Endings to Fallout 3 but it's all just a few line changes'.
So there's less choice than Fallout, but your choices have more impact. That's what visual novels are like. It'll be the same with this game.
