New SW Art
It might not be the best, but it's something, right?

And felt pens, why felt pens?!?!?
They have to be the worst colouring tool ever invented. Unreliable, too much contrast, they destroy the paper, are useless for volume, and any attempt to mix them turns the ink black! If you're going to hand colour use watercolour paint, or good old fashioned pencil crayons. And why would you hand colour when you're going to put it on the net? Photoshop does a much better job unless you're a fantastic colourist.
Okay rant over. But you have too admit, we see way too many good drawings ruined because the artist insisted on taking felts to them. |

Why would you bitch about that when they are providing new content?
To discourage further contribution? |

Discourage who?
An artist needs to withstand criticism, or he/she simply never improves. This idea that you can never state negatives or you'll "crush the budding self esteem of a perspective artist" is best left to elementary school teachers. Besides neither wolf not myself gave a criticism that wasn't easily remedied.
- Don't use lined paper. - Don't use felt markers. I don't see that as being overly demanding, or asking the impossible of the artist, and thus next time they submit a drawing they're likely to... - not use lined paper. - not use felt markers. ... and the world is left a little happier and a little hornier. What a lovely story! |

I leave the negative expects because they were all mention above.
I like this pic and the expresion on her face. What I also like is the background, especially the wooden door. For the first time not bad, and I'm sure that you will improve. Captain Ash

Sometimes, it's not what was said, but the context and "tone" with which it is said.
Offer advice, don't complain about defficiencies. Al, sorry but you come off as an ass. Maybe it's just you. In your case it's bes tto stick to "if you've nothign positive to say, say nothign at all" Sylph, Probably better to say "If you're going to scan it, it might be better to put off coloring until you can do it in photoshop, you can get really good colors that way". This comes off as helpful. I have to deal with situations like this every day. Ever tried telling a pissed off trucker that it's THIER fault you're not allowed to let them leave, because THEY didn't check thier truck before trying to leave with it? Angry truck drivers are a bad thing, especially when for some odd reason they can have you fired for doing your job. |

Formerly yes.
One of several jobs I've lost due to my big yap. The most amusing moment was as a Wendy's order-taker person-type thingie. Lady in the car actually had the nerve to say "I'd rather have a 'girl' order taker." Not accustomed to facing gender-type harassment in the workplace, all I could think to say was: "Would you like her regular, or 'Biggie size'?"
Anyway, nice job, all it needs now is some tone and volume-work, and the surgical removal of those notebook lines, but I'm sure Astaroanthros can manage that... that is if Wolfman-Al and I didn't sting too bad and cause him to tear all his clothes off and run naked into the hinterlands. Hopefully not, those hinterlands must be getting crowded with sweaty edgy naked people by now... Kinda makes me want to take a trip to the hinterlands! |
