It's possible that the project was cancelled. I mean, a movie like that would have an R rating. That means less benefits = no project. But I hope I was wrong... I'd love to watch a Darkchylde film indeed!

two words "Development Hell". Lots of movies end up there for various reasons, usually legal issues, studios not wanting to put the money into "odd" projects, or someone with the power to start or stop the project wanting something he/she can't have right now (specific effect, a certain actor)
