Big Neonzilla Gundamgellion Z

Or more commonly called Pacific Rim. Go. Watch it. Now. I refuse to go into detail so as not to reduce any awesome factor during viewing. All I will say is it was well worth the cost of admission and then some. I love it ^_^ I want hte bluray. I will be seeing it again.

Do you like giant robots? Do you like the anime mecha genre? Do you want ot see what can happen when someone makes a movie abotu robots that DOESNT have Shia Labouf screaming every 12 seconds? Watch this movie. It's hte closest anything will come ot making a Gundam/Eva/Big-O style live action movie without actually making one of those.

It's funny how many people are making comparisons to mecha anime, when, to me, it was more in tone with the Godzilla films. If that's enough to sell you on it, by all means; go. See. This. Movie.

By the way, how crazy/awesome would it be if this were the prequel to the Godzilla movie that Legendary Pictures is also producing? I know they don't have the same director, and there weren't any cameos, but still; Pacific Rim may as well be a two hour-long test screening for Godzilla.

While very much a Godzilla throwback, you cannot deny that Gypsy didn't remind you of Big O with that Rocket Punch. Actually of all the Mecha Animes out there, I think Big O is the closest to this one in terms of the design of the robots and how they fight.

This movie was great. The plot was paper thin (which for a movie like this is a GOOD thing), the characters were over the top and cartoony (again, a good thing), and the giant Robots/Aliens were all so different from one another that you could always tell them apart. Each one had it's own personality to how it fought, and no fight was a carbon copy of the last. They do something new each time. Seriously, Mr.Bay you could learn a thing or two from Del Toro, because THIS is how you make giant robots. Not your fucking giant heaps of scrap metal that you cant tell apart from one another unless they are like 50 feet separated.

Grown Ups 2 is beating this movie in the box office. I want you to think about that a moment. GU2....is a giant steaming pile of shit topped with vomit...the movie is horrible and makes me want to gouge my eyes and ears out so that I never have to experience it again.

And it is beating Pacific Rim because people are fucking idiots and find that stupid shit funny. Let's face it, the general public wouldn't know good anything even if it hit them in the fucking face.

I think it's more that the previews make it look like a shit-tastic crossover between Bayformers and Baytleship. If it weren't for this thread, I probably wouldn't bother with it this Friday night.

Yeah pretty much all those trailers show are establishing story which all gets out of the way in the first 10 mins to make way for the real movie.

See, I do a little research. I use my "Triforce" or critics:

http://angryjoeshow.com/
http://spoonyexperiment.com/
http://www.thecinemasnob.com/

They don't usually all agree on a movie, so when they do it is worth seeing. Only Spoony had issues with the movie, but surprisingly he didn't seem to hate it as much as he seemed like he wanted to. Granted he also thought the name was pointless and had nothing to do with the move (protip: The title makes total fucking sense), so he was being overly critical of the movie....just because of that. But even he admits that the fighting was awesomely done, and if you skip the first hour of the movie you got a solid Giant Robot flick.

It does indeed remind me most of Big O. Especially with how the robots moved and how believably heavy they appeared. Speaking of which, I never had the chance to finish Big O =(

The ending was disappointing, imo, but if you analyze it it may be different than it may first appear.

Though the absolute best part of the entire series was the cameo of the Gargoyles form the old Disney Gargoyles cartoon:

There was a Gargoyles cameo in Big O?

edit: Holy shit there was.

Wow, that site does not like being image linked to. I didn't even realize you'd put one in yours until I looked for it, but neither wanted to show up after I posted.

Not to veer off topic, but it would not surprise me if, by some chance, Disney decides to tap into their old 90's cartoons for film adaptations, and that Jerry Bruckheimer will produce it; because, what else is he going to do?
