What do you think are the sound effects for expansion/growth?

Just something that crossed my thoughts recently.

So what do you think are the 'proper' sound effects for expansion / growth effects are, in English language? Whenever I read expansion-related materials, most of them seem to use 'grow', 'swell', 'stretch' and such, instead of true onomatopoeia. What interests me is that Japanese language seem to have more of these SFX for their comics, compared to English. I tried thinking it out, but can't find a suitable equivalent for such SFX in English. Case in point for an old, expansion-related material: http://www.process-productions.com/f...3&d=1132299715

So, what do you think are suitable onomatopoeia for growth effects in English?

You are right - for the most part Japanese, Korean, etc. comics tend to have action (verbs) words literally describing the action;
"swell","grow","expand","stretch" which is a little funny if you think about it.
These are not sounds at all but simple descriptors.

This is actually a basic criticism of novice comics - one should draw actions not describe them with text. I have actually see people write "look","notice","push" and "trip" even though the characters are drawn doing it.

In French comics I have seen the BE text "Bon!" < good or benefiting > and "Fum" or "Fumm" which are being used in something akin to an adjective. The Fum has an odd etymology and does not translate to English well as it is more colloquial - it is something like "hot and smoldering physical change"

Again - not really a sound effect.

In comics with a Spanish origin (not translated from elsewhere) the only BE sound effect that comes close that I have actually seen was "Tiras" which translates directly as "shred" as in the fabric ripping sound but it also has related meanings such as; strip, pull, throw, shoot, cast outward...

Although sometimes obvious sound effects can be used for the growth if you are trying to be funny. Or if the growth is in really small amounts, or even out of view. "grow" or "swell" might make sense in those cases.

I think one sound effect wouldn't work that well. It depends on the speed of the growth, and the amount of the growth. I've always liked "Ka-Boob!" if the growth is fast, and the person has grown a lot.
