Richmond Virginia

I don't normally like to advertise where I live to people on the inter webs but I'm making a special case this time.

For the past 17 years I've lived in the state of Indiana. I just got word last weds that I'm going to be moving to Virginia. A new job I was applying for has given me the word I'm now in their employ. So now I have to find a place to stay in the Richmond area.

So that said, anyone live there? And if so any place I should avoid? I've got a realtor helping me to find houses/condos. But I'd like to know if there's areas that are just not good areas. And not just crime, but distance to stores, schools, libraries the normal stuff that makes up life.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I like in Norfolk, which is not that far from Richmond. I do suggest you actually go out in the town and explore for a couple days, get a good feel. PEople are normally friendly around that area

I've been in Richmond since the 23rd and aside from the general lack of a night life outside of the Fans it seems pretty similar to Indy. I got lucky in that my Realtor made the same type of move I did, not knowing anyone in the area, the previous year so he's been incredibly helpful with pointing out places to go and which areas are undesirable.
