Movie Talk..WWZ...

OK...so first off, I rarely...and I mean RARELY go to movies in the theater. I am far too misanthropic and hate crowds but, my kid wanted to take old Dad out. Knowing I like Zombie movies (Have since first seeing original Night of the Living Dead in theater as a kid), she took me to World War Z...

Well, the popcorn, cold as it was, was better than the flick, overall. Not to shoot a spoiler here but, it is all pizzazz and little story, if you know what I mean. While I can normally melt into any decent Z movie this...just sat there...mocking my love of the genre...

Even the F/X were...eh...so obviously CG as to make it very hard to see why they bothered instead of reusing clips from the last remake of I, MAN (I am Legend) which, at least, had a plot I could care about!

All in all, if you just have to see it..well...I feel for you, Bro but, if you ask me, save your money and if you must...rent the DVD.

Well I knew they'd bomb this. The book was at least worth reading, bsed on hte reality set forth in the Zombie Survival Guide. But I knew this movie would get hollywood'd up the ass. Such a shame.

Re: Movie Talk..WWZ...

It has...nothing to do with the book. Seriously, the book is about the aftermath of the outbreak, and mankind rebuilding. This movie is about the freakin' zombie invasion....they simply slapped the WWZ title on it to try and sell it, nothing more.

they sum it up nicely.

Re: Movie Talk..WWZ...

YES!!!

To both of you!!! I think my brain was having a srs SAD as I meant to mention that very aspect of it. I enjoyed the book. On a scale of 1-10, it was a solid 7-8.

What bugged me throughtout was, Walking Dead, based on a graphic novel was and is, IMHO, one of the best treatments of the ZA that I have ever come across. The use of CG is just enough to add, not overwhelm the overall content and the acting on Walking Dead is head and shoulders above that of this box office turd.

By the end of it all, in WWZ, I just did not care about a single character, felt no connection to the story and felt that one of my all time fave genres had been abused!!

Re: Movie Talk..WWZ...

They focused on a single random character form the book..rather than all the different characters the book had.....blegh.

Honestly, my favorite ZA adaptation is also Walking Dead, though when it comes to the Video Game medium I think Last of Us nailed it (ok...they aren't zombies but they are close enough)....that game should be a movie in it's own right.

Oh dear GOD....

I have been putting off, picking up Last of Us but....

OK..twist my arm...see if I care!!

The most amazing aspect of WD is that they manage to make a ZA mini-movie on such a regular basis. Sure, the graphic novel is a guide but, they swerve from it so brilliantly.

For me, I can empathize with the characters. I can believe them, care about them. Something that WWZ just...nope...not even a twinge. Rather like Land of the Dead. *snickering*

Re: Movie Talk..WWZ...

So this is pretty bad huh? I kinda figured it would be. The trailer I saw didn't even show a single zombie, it was just explosions and Brad Pitt running from explosions.

I'm going to get back to playing The Last of US, everyone I know who has it has beaten it but me.

Re: Movie Talk..WWZ...

I love Walking Dead! ^_^ They seem to understand that hte horror of the zombies is enough without making them super freaky mutant things. They dont run like track stars, they dont leap over fences nad walls, they dont shoot spores or venom at you, they just follow oyu, or any food, and relentlessly pursue, without rest, often in groups of meandering individuals that happen to be chasing the same food. It's the best representation of zombies I've ever seen. The only true ZA that I've seen.

And of course I LOVE the Zombie Survival guide. The only thing that separated that fro mthe world of Walking Dead is hte one key difference in the infection. Carriers can keep living and only reanimate when they die, unless accelerated by a bite, , whereas in the guide the infection is fatal in itself.

Lemme put it this way...Last of Us has some of the best story telling of any game I have ever played. The voice acting is top notch (I've heard better, but not many), the characters feel ALIVE and you connect with them.

Then there are the visuals...my god this game is pretty. Some of the best facial expressions in a game, Id even say better than LA Noire because they arent creepy video captures. Even the clothing moves/wrinkles realistically when you move, and the fabric looks REAL.

Then there is the gameplay..they nailed it absolutely. Ammo is scarce, but not so scarce that you should never fire your gun. Basically you try to sneak kill as many as you can with melee before you open fire on the rest. The story is immersive, and the environments, though fairly linear, feel big and open.

If you own a PS3 and you do NOT own this game, you need to be locked up in a mental asylum because you are insane.

In Walking Dead it isnt the zombie infection that kills you. The writters outright said it was the normal bacteria inside the human bite that does the trick. The human mouth is disgustingly flooded with flora (if you want to get technical your whole body is. You have 10x more Bacteria in your body than you do actual human cells.) and a bite from a human can cause a lot of illness.

Now imagine the bite from a rotting carcass that also has other forms of microbes that have moved on in to help with decomposing.

Re: Movie Talk..WWZ...

More so from the fact I buy ps3 games and they are sitting on my shelf as I maybe play uncharted. Though I do think i'll be renting Last of us soonish.

Walking Dead has the advantage of being a television series, as a such they don't need to fit a story in a 90 minute film which sadly will follow the usual horror story tropes. I think that's what allows it to really focus on the human and survival elements.
