Possibly allergic

So, some pretty outstanding news (he said, his words dripping with sarcasm) from my investigations online.

Some history. Over the past couple of years, I have been suffering from itchy skin. And I'm telling you--suffering. It has been getting worse over the last year or so to a point where it's hard to get to sleep at night. I also get little red bumps everywhere.

I have tried lotions and humidifiers to hydrate my skin and it doesn't help. I have thoroughly scoured my bedding and other fabric stuff for bugs and nothing was found.

From my research online (yeah, I know), I think I may have nailed down the culprit: My cat.

This started to gradually come on since I got him about 3 years ago. I have started taking Benadryl to see if that helps and it helps a very tiny bit but not enough to say if it's actually helping or if it's a placebo effect.

At the moment, I cannot afford a doctor's visit to find out for certain but if that's the case, I might have to regrettably find a new home for my kitty.

Re: Possibly allergic

If you can't get a doctor to do an allergy test, do one yourself. Get the cat to lick or scratch a patch of relatively unaffected skin. If you do break out after that, it's likely it's the cat. If not, it might be something else. Something in the bed, laundry detergent, ect. Try switching things around one at a time for a couple of weeks each.

I think it might be the dander because I did get a scratch on my leg from playing with him and I didn't break out there.

Re: Possibly allergic

I hope you're not allergic to Process!

Anyway, I have some similar. It might be atopic dermatitis (I think that's the name in english). Basically, my skin gets very very dry and itchy whenever I eat nuts or milk or in places near the sea. And I used to drink about two litres of milk, daily.

It might be something you're eating or drinking? Or the place you're living?

Re: Possibly allergic

It's possible, but I haven't changed my diet and I've lived in several different places. The only thing that's really a link is my cat.

It could still be your diet. I was drinking boxed milk daily ever since I felt my mother's teats until I randomly developed the dermatitis about a year ago. Then when I stopped drinking that (healthcare is free in Spain and the doctor told me to) I got much better.

Lol not felt.

LEFT

lol.

Anyway. My mom has wonderful teats. It's deduced from that my mom is all-around wonderful, which means that her teats are wonderful too.

It would be best to test that theory. If you can, get someone else to care for your cat for a week and clean the crap out of your place. Put everything cat-related in sealed plastic bags. If you start to clear up after a few days, you know why. If not, you have another mystery to solve.

Re: Possibly allergic

The red bumps aren't necessarily itchy. When I look at the itchy areas, there doesn't seem to be any visual difference between itchy areas and non-itchy areas.
