Feedback: BESC Free Comic Book Day

Looking for some feedback on the free comic book day addition from the BESC/GC/BC (I'm not entirely sure what they call themselves). Hopefully everyone who wanted to check it out has gotten a chance to as it was a free download. It seemed like a fun idea to bring everything together but maybe it came out too cluttered? I'll also be the first to admit I'm not entirely sure how to make bimbofication work. Even if folks didn't particularly like my story, hopefully this will become an annual thing-- someone else picking up the torch next time around if the demos so deem it.

At least as of the moment I'm posting this, you can still get the free comic by going to the BESC's announcement page, clicking on the image in the May 4 post, and going through the newsletter signup process.

That plot seems a lot like the Con`Fused story I'm doing over at mindcontrolcomics.
Not that the basic premise is a completely original idea or anything.

EDIT: I wasn't able to get it because I wasn't even aware of it and I frequent a LOT of the mc/bimbo sites and threads. So my advice is, next time: do better marketing.
Plan in advance and get the word out so people know to go there and look for it. FCBD give away is a great idea (MCC should have done it) and pretty universal in the comics world, but it does zero good if no one knows it's there.

If I had my way all my stories would be drawn up by Portal , but alas.

As far as marketing goes though, It would have been nice to have any sort of publicity, but that side of things isn't in my job description at the moment.

Can't say I've read it, but I assure you any similarities were coincidental....or maybe I've been targeted with subliminal messaging! Either way, I really hope free comic book day comics catches on in the fetish community, not just for BESC. So here's hoping for next years more publicized event.

You need to make it in your job description.

I don't rely on anyone else to promote my work. If I have a new book or thing coming out, I make threads or post in appropriate threads to draw attention to it.

Every time there's a new Beyond Rubies coming out you can bet that there will be at least 2 threads on Process Forums alone as well as MCF, dA, my blog etc. I'll even advertise it on 4chan.

It's up to you to get the word out.

I wasn't saying that as a figure of speech. Writer's contracts literally are paid out as a single pop upon fruition. I could have personally taken the time and effort to write up a message for folks, but there isn't much of a point?

This is a little unsettling, it's a shame to hear that.

That being said, your concerns are heard, and hopefully next time around there'll be a much smoother system (or more coordinated creative team) processing it. A lot of the disjointed story line came from the fact I'd initially written three stories which were interwoven (one for each of the clubs) but separate. The dream aspect had initially played into the story line as well. The three were squished into one story. Certainly not an excuse for convoluted plot lines or preachiness... but there was a plan at one point, I just forgot it somewhere in the translation process. I still think it was a worthwhile treat for the community.

As for the idea of this being an introduction to new consumers. I really can't imagine that being true. (practically) No one stumbles upon the breast expansion story club unless he (or she) is looking for it. I can say with full confidence, if this comic has scared any potential clients away, they should check out any of the numerous other free previews showcasing better comics.

Anywho, thanks for the feedback, this was-- after all-- an experiment, and hopefully we'll have the form straightened out next time around.

Yeah, that's how most freelancer/work-for-hire stuff is done.

The point is to promote yourself and your work so people will read it. It helps develop a fanbase/following so you can get more work in the future.

Why in the world would you NOT want to promote something you did?

That is literally the entire point behind Free Comic Book Day. While there is a slight element of just "giving the fans a free gift," that is clearly not the focus (otherwise, it would only be available to those who have already purchased a comic). From a business stand-point the purpose of Free Comic Book Day is to hook potential new consumers. And claiming that you can't possibly get new consumers is just stupid. I'm coming across new additions to our community of BE fans all the god damn time.

Furthermore, that's not an excuse for putting out lackluster product. As Stan Lee once said "treat every comic like its someone's first."
