Re: Pinball

Yeah that is a bit much to say "pay first then gripe"...paying for something compared to what happened here doesn't make the content any different and thus doesn't make a complaint about said content any less valid.

And whether the subject is pay content or not shouldn't deter discussion of it. If not here then where? Just my 2?.
Well then the criticism justification means nothing. If all you're doing is discussing things, and you're complaining about it, you're just complaining. If you're actively trying to criticize in a helpful way, then you have to make sure the artist hears you.

In short, no, that's not the point of having this forum at all.

The question is, do we or do we not have the right to complain about the quality of a process-related work on this process-centered forum, not that you're the one whose approval we even would need for it?

Unless Lorekeep or Suti starts laying down restrictions and guideline about under which circumstances we're allowed to complain about a shitty piece of process art, your incessant white-knighting of the poor, downtrodden artist serves no purpose but to help us measure the height of your oh-so-high horse.

Re: Pinball

You are allowed to critique or criticize anything on this forum. Just do not be an asshole, jerk, do not scare people away or drive them away. This is strong for people here who produce custom art. If you have some tips on how to improve their art, go ahead. If you hate the art or the subject, keep your mouth shut.

fun topic... makes me wanna post... i'm now quite happy, thanks for cheering me up you guys ... ahem anyway... this is agood forum full of friendly people givin' a small subgenre a leg up it is a shame when people post pay stuff but its also hard to check before posting and posting keeps this place alive. i'm sure the right people remove the right things so that none of us get in trouble. not to imply you shouldn't check first...

Hello The Warlock,

Just a suggestion, but I think you should post links and contact information so people who are interested can go purchase the product or at least make it simple for them to contact the creator. Your current pursuit of chastisement doesn't seem to be effective. =\

Cheers,
The Taruby.

Pay content that you're in no way supporting? No. If you're actually offering a critique of something you paid for, unless the artist posts here, again no. If you're just bitching because the pay content you got for free isn't exactly what you wanted, you're an asshole and I will occasionally call you on it. You're free to complain about that, but it doesn't make you less of an asshole.

Complaining helps nobody. All it does is get other complainers to validate your lame opinion. If you don't like it, that's fine, but you don't have to be a cock about it just because the internet lets you do so easily. I'm not talking about the board rules, I'm pointing out who's being an asshole. Hint: you are.

Re: Pinball

Bitching usually means you haven't taken the time to look at the positives. There's fault in everything because nothing is perfect. Kind words on areas to work on go a lot farther than "This sucked." But the feeling of saying "This sucked" is a lot better and easier to write than a detailed description of what to do.

Why complain about free things? I only complain if I've been duped, defrauded, or someone plays a trick on me.

Re: Pinball

You see more pinball playing than process in this video, so that's what I'll criticize: a pinball machine with point values that low -- 100 points for the highest-value bumper -- wouldn't have score displays with that many digits. Especially if you can get through the modes as easily as she did.

The thing is, Soy, Suti and company were barely complaining at all, and it was certainly anything but overly negative. They all noted the fantastic quality of the video, as well as the process within. Furthermore they merely pointed out a few aspects that they didn't enjoy (and even went so far as to point out that others may).

I guess I just never see a problem with someone saying "It's great because _____, but it's not my cup of tea/something negative," regardless of the situation. Nobody has been condoning the act of piracy itself, merely reacting to material presented to them.

Look, I'm a musician, and I know first hand how damaging piracy can be. Sure I would be upset if someone was criticizing my work after obtaining it illegally. However I would never dispute their right to do so (criticize it, not steal it obviously).
