I strongly disagree. Missuse of gradient tool would be more acurate. I could see some usage to using it to add texture to an image (though I personally would prefer hand done textures when dealing with living organisms as they are more organic), but I have never seen a fox with a tail textured like sandpaper before. Textures however not always necessary.
