Audrey arrived Saturday afternoon at the club. A day that wasn’t a special event? how was she going to cope? Audrey thought amused to herself. She would get to see Marty again tonight though, that was something. In the change room Audrey met up with Carrie and Lin while they were getting ready. Audrey had never really gotten a good look at Carrie before without her costume. She was still tall and athletic, she could have easily passed for the lovely assistant just as much as the magician. Her shiny black hair was tied off in a neat pony tail and she had already put on her lingerie, all ready to go. Lin on the other hand was a petit blond with shoulder length hair and a small but curvy figure. “Hey Carrie when’s your next show?” Audrey asked. “Next Monday. She replied. I can’t wait to see how it goes not having to worrying about falling over.” “And I can’t wait to not get my feet stepped on.” Lin grinned as she teased Carrie. “Thanks again Audrey. Ted said they’d have special pads for my feet by the time the show starts.” Carrie said excited. “That’s great, good for you guys.” Audrey said.

Audrey turned to her locker, there was a letter pinned to it. “My pay check!” Audrey exclaimed. Several of the girls around her began paying attention. Audrey ripped open the envelop and examined the paper within. The club directly deposited her pay so this was just a statement. Audrey’s heart began to race,

Audrey slumped against her locker. “Not bad for an honest weeks work hun?” Someone in the crowd said. Audrey could not react, couldn’t laugh, couldn’t cry, she was totally stunned by the astronomical figure. This check alone will clear my credit cards and a good chunk of my debt. She thought. Audrey slowly pulled herself together. “I had no idea.” She said to Carrie as the crowd thinned. Carrie grinned. “Come on lets go get our pills, wouldn’t want them to hold back an hours pay if we’re late.” Audrey laughed, put her check in her locker and fallowed along.

Audrey stood in line in front of Carrie chattering on about all the things she would do with her first pay check and trying not to think about how much would actually go to paying bills. Audrey was in such a good mood she smiled and thanked Barbra for her pill when she got to the front of the line, Barbra only gave her a surly look. Audrey waited up in the hall the minute it took Carrie to get her pill, Lin was already waiting and had mostly changed as she got her’s first. Play mate bunny’s didn’t have shit on Alice as her huge round breasts swelled under snowy white fur and a puffy white tail grew out above a tight curvy ass. Auuuggg. She groaned and began retching as she leaned against the wall. Audrey hurried to her and as soon as she was done began to lead Carrie back toward Barb’s office but before they got there Carrie began waling in pain and Audrey had to half carry her the rest of the way with Lin’s help as they passed the small line coming out the double doors.

“Barbra Help!” Audrey called. The middle aged nurse flew from her chair with speed Audrey never dreamed she had and helped guide Carrie down to the floor. Carrie immediately began to spasm on the floor. “Cradle her head.” Barb yelled as she flew to the medicine cabinet. “But don’t hold her down, she could hurt herself convulsing if you hold her still.” Audrey obeyed cradling Carrie’s head in her lap as she shook. Audrey looked up at the crowd of terrified faces as the others in line watched, Alice stood wide eye against the wall staring at Carrie. Carrie’s body had began to change but something was not right. A red stubble had began sprouting from her skin but brushed away at a touch. Not hair, the beginnings of feathers? Audrey thought. Carrie body had shifted slightly, her hips widened and her breasts began to swell but her face deformed as well, her chin and upper lip jutting out but never quiet changing to anything, the rest of her body looked red and puffy like the swelling from and allergic reaction. Barb returned and jabbed an already primed needle into Carrie’s hip injecting a large dose of something. Carrie began to shudder more violently and the speed at which her bust line was swelling picked up. Audrey watched in horror as Carrie’s breast’s swelled well past beach ball size, spilling over off her body before Barbra could jab each of them with another injection and the swelling slowed.

Audrey had forgotten she too had taken her pill and it was at this moment Audrey’s pill decided to kick in with earnest and Audrey’s breasts inflated to Squirrely’s huge size and nearly smothered Carrie’s ruined face. “Audrey switch with one of the other girls, your no help to me if you can’t see over your own tits.” Barbra yelled barely looking up. Audrey leaned back as far as she could and looked helplessly at the crowd of onlookers. Alice was of no help at her size ether and the look of terror on her face said she’d be no help any time soon. Evelyn had not yet had her own pill and rushed forward helping Audrey transfer Carrie’s head to her lap as Audrey scrambled to the closest side wall. Barbra continued to work with several different injections for several minutes till Carrie stop shaking so violently. Audrey coward in the corner not caring that she nearly smothered herself with her knees pushing her chest up into her face with in her scrunched up position. At some point Ted barged in, took one look at Carrie and began clearing the room. After the others were out he came over and helped, slash dragged Audrey to her feet and led her out, leaving her against the wall outside the office doors.

Audrey looked up over the edge of her tail she had curled around herself. The hallway was lined with stunned women, all thinking the same thing as they stared at the double doors. That could have been me. The most disturbed of the group were the few that had already taken their pills and changed. Rebecca, aka Sandy the lizard stood not far from Audrey staring at the doors and then down at her scaley skin back and forth with horror. Lin was sitting not far from Audrey but looked blank. A short time later Evelyn slowly walked from the room, everyone approached but seemed to be unable to ask the question they all wanted to ask. “Barb says she’s gonna make it, but she’s a real mess.” Evelyn said answering to the un-question. Evelyn silently made her way over to Audrey, pushed her tail aside and sat next to her, they huddled together. Ted emerged soon after.

“Ladies there’s obviously been a serious problem with the pill stock tonight. No one is taking another till we get the whole batch tested. I’ll address the customers in a bit but no ones working tonight, for the girls already changed I’m sorry you’ll just have to wait here but the rest of you can go.” “No one’s going anywhere till we see that Carrie’s alright, even if we have to wait all night.” Erin said forgetting she had not yet dawned her flabby armor and was acting her normal self. There were several mutters of agreement. “Alright, your right but no one can see her now, Barb’s working on her. I have to make about a thousand calls so everyone please at least wait in the dressing room, Please?” Ted asked. Everyone began filtering down the hall and Evelyn helped Audrey to her feet and down the hall.

Just out side of the change rooms Audrey looked up to see Marty running down the hall. As their eyes met Audrey could see some of the tension drain out of him and she ran into his arms not caring if the whole world (which most of her world was the girls filing into the change room) knew she was dating him. “I heard one of the girls had a reaction to her meds, I was so worried it was you.” He said between kisses. “Carrie.” Audrey sobbed. “Your friend you helped with dancing?” Marty asked. “I have to go, I’ll take some blood and we’ll find out how this happened I swear. I’ve already got everyone opening the lab.” He said reluctantly backing away. Audrey was torn between wanting nothing more than to have him hold her and for him to hurry to Carrie’s side. “Go, I’ll see you later, Go, Run.” She said and he continued down the hall. “Your damn lucky ta have him.” Evelyn said Lin was by her side. “Did you see the look on his face when he saw you were ok? He loves you.” Lin said. Audrey grappled with that idea for a long moment. He loves me? She had seen it in his eyes before but to be told somehow made it real. Did she feel the same way? She liked Marty but she’d only known him a week. Audrey slowly rejoined her friends now trying to cope with two major events for her in one night.

The next few hours passed like an eternity in the little locker room that had become a hospital waiting room. Girls sat in little clusters talking and trying to calm some of the more hysterical girls that had changed. Marry, one of the cat girl chores line, could simply not cope with having fur right now. A team of girls sat around her trying to calm her and making sure she didn’t start trying to rip out her hair again. Audrey sat with Evelyn and Lin in their own personal bubble of solitude, being so much closer to what had happened had set them apart somehow. “Did you know this could happen?” Audrey asked nervously. “I’ve only ever herd of it happenin once before, at another club years ago.” Evelyn said. “She was normal coming out of the dispensary, it happen so fast.” Lin said drearily. “We assume they’ve worked the major kinks out a the pills before they make it ta us.” Evelyn said. “God, Testing division?” Audrey asked as the concept dawned on her. “I really don’t wanta know how often that kinda thing happens there.” Evelyn said looking a little sick. “And that night you did your act. Audrey blurted. That pill had flaws to. God Evelyn this could have...” “Stop. Evelyn said. If you let thoughts like that run through your head you’ll be fighting a war every time you have to swallow that pill.” Audrey quietly sat thinking of the next time she’d have to take her pill, she stared down at the fur on her arm like the answer hid between the hairs.

The night crawled on. There was simply nothing to do but wait and the games on a cell phone or awkward conversation could only go so far so every woman in the room had a good long time to stress over the situation. Audrey was so relived when she started to feel the change back tingles around two o’clock she could have cried and shortly after every bit of fur and feathers in the room faded away Ted made his way into the dressing room for an announcement. “Ladies I figured by now you’d all be changing back and I just talked to Barbra. Carrie is stable and sleeping, you can all go in to see her if your quiet but I suggest some of the more shaken girls pass on this. She’s not permanently injured but she’s in pretty ruff shape.” Murmurs passed through the crowd as Ted waited to show them in and slowly a line of Carrie’s friends began to head toward the door. The three women all joined despite a look of concern from Ted and after they left only a few of the more hysterical girls and a small group of caretakers remained behind.

Audrey fallowed the group through the back of Barbra’s office. To accommodate all their health care needs Barbra’s office needed to have a full recovery room in back along with several rooms of machines. It seemed she could cover everything shy of full blown surgery back here. As Audrey entered the room she steeled herself for her first look at Carrie and still shuddered when she first saw her. Though Carrie was covered by a light sheet Audrey could tell from her arms and upper body that she was a bruise from head to toe. Her pretty delicate face looked like a full grown man had pummeled her within an inch of her life. Audrey could tell from under the sheet she still had noticeable swelling in the chest and hips. Despite all this she was breathing on her own and Audrey could see an IV of what she assumed was very strong pain meds feeding into her. “Her injures are surprisingly mild despite her appearance girls.” Barbra said in an uncharacteristically soothing voice as she entered from a side room. “The severe bruising and some swelling is from the growth of whatever it was aside from her normal hair trying to push through her skin. All deformities reverted when she received the drugs I administered so there’s nothing broken and the swelling should all go down with the bruising. She’s resting comfortably now but I want to keep her here a few days to make sure she’s not suffering any less noticeable side effects or liver damage from the drugs but she should be awake tomorrow and I’ll allow a few visitors if you make sure she gets her rest after.” An audible sigh of relief echoed though the room. “Barb how did this happen?” Megan asked for the group. “I don’t know.” Barbra said looking very tired as she sat down on the foot board of the hospital like bed. “Dr. Schiffman has already taken a sample of her blood along with the pill stock we had left. You all know the pills are sealed right from the lab so if there was a mistake it happened there.” Murmurs ran through the crowd but only in whispers as the girls made their way out of the nurses office.

Back in the locker room Audrey found her phone and text Marty. ‘Any news?’ It was several minutes before the answer came back and many of the girls had collected their things and were headed out. ‘Not yet will be working through the night to get results.’ Shortly after he sent. ‘You Ok? Ted told me you brought her in.’ Audrey couldn’t help but shudder at remembering the event. She sent back. ‘Yes I’m ok but missing you. You stay and figure it out though.’ A bit later he sent. ‘When were done the work we’ll have to wait till morning for the results. Do you want me to come over?’ Audrey couldn’t help but sob as she typed yes. ‘Just send me your address and leave the door open. I know it’s hard but try to get some sleep and I’ll be there when I can.’ He sent back. Audrey sent him her information and got ready to leave. She pulled out her pay check. The small envelop felt like it weighed a ton in her hand. How could she ever spend her money with out thinking of what happened to Carrie now? Audrey leaned down against the side of her locker sobbing and crying for a good long time before she could will herself to leave.

Audrey was lying on her bed late that night. She had managed to stop crying but could not sleep with all the mixed thoughts of worry and the confusing thought that Marty loved her. Marty loved her, the thought was so foreign. She’d been with plenty of guys before but ‘I love you’ was just something you scream while fucking she’d never really felt it before. She’d only known him a week now but they did get along really well together. Could it really only take that long? When she herd Marty quietly let himself in she rolled over and waited till he came to the bedroom door. “I didn’t think you’d be asleep.” He said undressing and laying down next to her. She did not respond. “I’m sorry Audrey. He said. I always knew this kind of thing is a possibility in our line of work but...” Marty cut off as Audrey held him tighter, pressing herself against him. “Do you really love me?” She was afraid she sounded needy as she asked the question. He paused for a moment thinking but said. “Yeah, I think I really do.” He said in a matter of fact way. Audrey sobbed against the back of his neck, love was something a stripper only really ever fantasized about. Audrey forcibly rolled Marty over and climbed on top of him.
