Could I run Oblivion?
So, I got a new computer recently, and I was wondering if I could save $300 by not buying an XBox 360, and running Oblivion on my comp instead.
The mininmum system reqs for Oblivion are 512 MB Ram, and a 2Ghz processor. I have more than enough RAM, but my processor is a 1.8 Ghz Dual Core. And im running on Vista. Think I could still manage?

Your video card is what will really matter in this case.

So yea, your processor is plenty powerful, it comes down to what Test-0 said, your video card.

from experiance with the gane, its minimums are off.
To be PLAYABLE you want 2ghtz processor, 1gig ram, and a 256 mb (dedicated) gfx card (geforce 6000 series will do, MAYBE upper 5000's) I tried the game on a comp with 512mb ram and a 2ghtz Pentium 4 processor with a 256mb(dedicated)GeForce 6800, and after letting it load the area, it stalled on the load scrren every time. Also, keep in mind that VISTA itself takes 512 ram, for a VISTA system you want 1.5gig-2gigs for this game.

Morrowind/Oblivion perform total computer rape. They will eat what you offer them and beg for more.
That being said, worked fairly well on my old 3600+ w/ 1 gig of RAM and an x1600 w/ 512 of RAM. I've since bumped up to a dual core 4000+ processor. Since your processor is right there at the cusp of the minimum requirements, you may experience some points where the game just stops and has to load everything. Not sure if you've encountered that phenomina with games before. Otherwise, all you can do is try. Oh, and somebody remarked that a dual-core processor = two 1.8 GHz processors? Heh... no. Doesn't work that way, I'm afraid. You're assuming that the motherboard supports dual-processing, that the operating system supports dual processors, and the age old 2+2=4. Sadly, in computers, 2+2=5 for exceptionally large values of 2. Math isn't always pretty when it comes to PCs. |

Thats why I'd rather play on a console, you have to upgrade every other year. I'd rather spend $300 then over $1000. For my piece of junk computer that would be in th $10,000 range.
Good luck anyway. Oblivion is worth it if your willing to spend money. |

Hmmmm.... i have a GeForce Go 6150 video card, with apparently 64 Mb of dedicated video memory... So I'm guessing I'd have real problems. Fuck.

Oh! In a few months the 360 is getting a Game of the Year version of the game. Comes with Knights of the Nine AND Shivering Isles packed with it for $60, which is the same price as a normal copy new ($54 used at Gamestop...freakin expensove for a used.)

I have a 3800mhz with a gig of ram and a GeForce 7900 with 256 megs of ram and I can run Oblivion comfortible with medium settings unless theres a lot going on, like a small group of 5-6 monsters.

Oblivion is a large, open single player RPG, with a world large enough to BE an MMO.
