CD image burning

So I just DLed a CD image for Sonic Adventure for the Dreamcast (cuz I'm old school like that...) and I was going to burn it to disc for my computer. The problem is that its about 730 Mb, while the largest CD I have is only 700.

I guess the question is: can I burn it on a DVD instead with the same results?

.....although I don't think it'll work anyway....

Now, are you burning it to play on your own Dreamcast? Or did you mean to play it on your computer? If you mean to play it on your computer (via Emulator) then a DVD should work.. heck, you may not even have to burn it, some emus can just read ISOs.

If you intend to play it on your own DC, I dont recall if the Dreamcast read DVDs or not. If it doesnt, then.. no.

Is the ISO file itself 730 or when you try to burn does it tell you there's not enough space? Look into your cd burning software for any overburning options.

Overburning can write more data onto a disc than it is rated for. (but in RARE cases supposedly can damage the laser on your writer.. never seen it happen to anyone)

Its for my comp. But its not an .iso, its a .cdi file. The reason i ask is that i think the image would be a bit different for a DVD than a CD, and thats what this file is supposed to be... I'll check out what you told me, thanks.

By the way, the Dreamcast uses a special CD format that is midway in density between the standard CD format and the standard DVD format, and allows about 1,200 megabytes per disk. You won't be able to burn to such a format without a special CD writer made for it.

I had heard the Dreamcast did not have any kind of hardwired copy protection like the PS1. Guess thats how they prevented it anyway. Like putting DVD movies on those 7 gig disks so you cant really copy them since you cant buy those disks. Course, you can get dual layer disks now, but the price would prevent you from mass copying a movie rather than just sending the cheap bastard to Blockbuster and getting it themselves.

CDI is a Nero image format, so more than likely you're going to have to download at least the trial version of Nero. Install it, select the option to burn an image/ISO, insert disc, let the magic happen.

Of course, I'm assuming that you're concerned because your plan was to drag and drop the CDI onto the CD and just burn it that way? I could be wrong, but that's the only time I'd be worried about such a thing. All other times, I try to vaguely trust the person that created the image. Don't worry, if it won't fit, you'll be told by Nero.
