I can't fault the characters too much, as we're talking the span of a minute and a half tops, where they're dealing with the idea of a person turning into a freaking fish-thing right in front of them.

If it was any of us standing there we would react better, as we all seem to be pretty damn used to the idea of a woman going through a painful transformation in front of us (even if it's never actually happened before).
