My guess is that it was a project designed to keep the students busy between the time they took the AP test and the actual end of the school year. That's based on my actual experiences in AP classes -- I wish we'd been able to make a movie, but I went to high school long enough ago that we would have had to borrow equipment from the Lumière brothers.
