On a note regarding "Heros", you kind of need to have them. Or at least normal, named units like Kerrigan and Raynor, or you'll have a story beig told by... nobody, except nameless units. Thats no fun.
I forsee the Xel'Naga having something to do with the new game, as mentioned in brood wars. As it stands now, the Zerg pretty much rule the sector. The Protoss are shattered and the Terrans are just barely holding them back.

E3 is usually the first or second week of May, as I recall. I know they did the whole reformat, but I'm pretty sure that's already been and gone.

Bad News:
"Such sentiments came in part from a GameSpot video interview with lead producer Chris Sigaty. In it, he said that Blizzard usually takes "three and a half or four years to finish a game" and that Starcraft II would enter alpha testing later in the year. Since the company has publicly said that Starcraft II had been in development since 2003, that led some to believe the game could come in 2007.

Unfortunately, that's not going to happen. Speaking with MSNBC, Blizzard vice president of game design Rob Pardo ruled out any possibility that Starcraft II would join the crush of titles coming out this holiday season.

When asked about the game's release date, Pardo said, "The only thing I can give you [that's] concrete is it's not going to be this year. Some people were hoping, because of how advanced the game looks, that we'd have it out by Christmas, but that's definitely not happening."

It's been in development since '03? I thought Blizz was working on the scrapped Starcraft: Ghost (an FPS instead of a RTS) back then.

They probably have different teams. One for RTS, and one for WoW. The WoW team was probably working on SC:G but then WoW became such a big success they scrapped it [Ghost] and focused on WoW.

This is all just pure speculation though.

PS. I read that they began on SC2 after WC3:FT came out.

Also about the Warhammer/Starcraft debate, I believe that Blizzard was making a W40k game, and games workshop pulled out, so Blizzard went on to make starcraft. Trying to remember where that info came from, but alas, it fails me.

And yes, Games Workshop figures are expensive, but they are good quality, well, at least the 40k ones are, the Lord of the Rings line they have isn't that good. I'm actually glad they switched from metal to plastic, because plastic is easier to modify and customize, which is my favortite thing to do with my space marine chapter.

And the creative aspect behind the models is what motivates me, I have never even played the tabletop game but in the games workshop stores. (Besides, my Space Marine Chapter would be highly illegal in the game rules because of the modifications.)

If I remember right, Ghost has actually just been handed back and forth from out-of-house development team to out-of-house development team. The easiest way to think of it might be as the game with Blizzard's name on it that Blizzard didn't do most of the work for.

A little off-topic. But is Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne still played alot on Bnet?

I ask because I'm considering buying it (already have WC3) to hold me off till SC2.

The problem with SC: Ghost is that Blizzard isn't making it yet wants the same calibre of game as if they had made it. Basically, the third party would get the game suedo ready and show it to Blizzard and Blizzard would say it wasn't good enough. So the developer would, basically, give up the project.

I think they've passed it along to three diffrent developers, I think, and all three never meet Blizzard's standerds so they quit. Cant really blame them though cause development is pretty expensive so the longer the game is in development the more money you have to shell out. Of course with Blizzard's pass to print money( see WoW) that isnt a issue for them unlike most other companies.
