Movie Talk: The Event Horrizon
What's this? A SECOND Movie Talk thread in one week?!
I was in a horror movie mood after watching Cabin in the Woods, so when I saw Event Horizon was also up on Netflix Instant, I jumped on it immediately as I never know when Netflix will take a movie out of rotation without warning. This movie was...fucking terrifying, to me. Doubly so, because it's a space horror film. That being said, I don't think this movie holds up very well. My main gripe is the pacing, as it felt like the movie was on a slight fast-forward setting. Which is a shame, because Paul W.S. Anderson was clearly emulating older space and/or horror films. The more obvious ones being the Shining*, Alien and Hellraiser. Had this movie been a bit slower, I'd think it would have helped the horror factor, giving the sense of isolation and paranoia in some scenes. *(The film was originally pitched as being the Shining in space.) But with all of the said, Event Horizon still works for what it turned out to be. The cast did a good job, and Sam Neill was a really creepy antagonist near the end. And anything that questions what lies beyond the veil of what we perceive as the universe, and the fear of learning the answer, is what helps this movie, for me. What did you guys and gals think of Event Horizon? Last edited by JBird; 09-08-2013 at 03:24 PM. |
