Its as safe as one makes it. With everything comes risk. However there have been many who have done it safely. Yet many more who have done serious damage to themselves.

You really need to do it a LITTLE bit at a time. I have a feeling that it requires you to not have anything that could block the flow of air first (yes i do mean use the restroom first.) Then you would probably only be able to do a couple of small pumps first. Hold it then wait a while before you try again.
