Genius: The Transgression - pretty much anything
Came across this a long time ago, but never got round to mentioning it. It's a fanmade system/expansion of WoD (World of Darkness, modern setting RP system, known for it's werewolf and vampire expansions). It has massive potential.
Basically, it's mad science, but advanced beyond the minds of even the people who use it. It flows into a Genius like a form of energy. You can use it to make and power pretty much anything you can picture, but the way the game mechanics work gives you fields to determine exactly what your devices can do. Axioms: Apoxalypsi - Scanners, ranging from accessing data storage to x-ray goggles, mind reading and probability detectors. Automata - AI and robots, ranging from dumb gun turrets to superintelligent. You design these, but the random flaw system may mean they end up criminally insane anyway. Can also make automated factories and biological 'robots' (including articial humans, plant-monsters and chimerae) Epikrato - Control things. Including objects (universal remote and telekinesis), mind control, weather and probability. Max ranks allow you to rewrite people's identity/personality completely or make mind-swap devices. [NB: usually very evil] Exelixi - Heal things, also make things harder, better, faster, stronger. This can be in the form of a boost to muscles, a wiry exoskeleton or anything else you can come up with. Also regenerating lost limbs etc. Reviving at max level. Katastrofi - Guns and grenades. Anything that can use mad science to inflict damage. Well, anything more advanced than ordering a minion to punch them in the face. Things like disintegration guns, lightsabers and orbital bombardment arrays. It's also necessary to make things like a freeze ray, TF gun or a mind control ray. Mataptropi - My favourite. Transformation. 1 rank does appearance changes, 2 changes the materials stuff is made out of and also does holograms, 3 allows you to shrink or grow things. 4 lets you change things' shapes, only limited by the laws of nature. 5(max) lets do irrational transformations, e.g. changing living things into any solid, liquid or gas and allowing them to move naturally. Can also do pocket dimensions. Prostasia - Shielding. This includes things like firewalls and data protection. Prostasia+Exelixi = Power armour. Skafoi - Travel. Starts off with fast cars, through mole machines and spaceships all the way to teleporters, interdimensional travel and time machines. Using the modifiers on your devices can allow you to replicate pretty much anything you come up with. In our campaign, our weapons guy had implosion guns and grenades which worked by folding space into 11 dimensions until it collapsed, a girl who was basically like doctor octopus but with super strong automata plant vines (all her inventions were plant-based) and a nice french gentleman who had a clockwork eye. His theme was knitting and clockwork. My character was a cosplaying, alchemy-obsessed grad student (got kicked out before getting her PhD) who had a bike that could ride up walls, a bangle that allowed her to (illusorily) shapeshift into any humanoid and a small cube that was primarily used to change water into napalm, before lobbing it at enemies. And we were fairly low levelled. As far as I can tell it's the poplar alternative to D&D for people who prefer a more realistic setting. |
