PSA: Programmers are people too, so we have obligations to fufill in real life. In addition, games are very difficult to make since it requires a good understanding of what your code does, lest you get a syntax error and things don't compile. Combined with how you need to learn to code in the first place (then test if it does what you want it to do, test that it does what you want it to do accross multiple systems, optimize, etc), I can comfortably say it takes longer to produce a game than any other media in the world.

I mean, with drawings, at least the paper doesn't complain about a missing semicolon, undefined variable, or outright throw a segmentation fault in your face. Same goes for animation, music production, and writing; you are the sole force that decides whether or not it can be considered what you intended it to be. With programming, everything you do is algorithmically scrutinized by inhuman entities.

This is very true. If you've ever watched Totalbiscuit's first impression WTF videos, there have been games he made a video about that were abysmal, like Gary Incident and the most recent one Guise of Wolf. If a game isn't done properly you'll get a mess like those games. And no matter what the intentions of the devs were, a fuck up is a fuck up and potential customers will avoid your future products assuming you're still in business.
Heck even Stronghold 3 went bad sadly. These things takes time even moreso for smaller studios or as we call them indies. You can only fuck up once really.

But undoing an error is much easier. CTRL-Z, versus redoing the entire thing over again.

Re: Cow Girl Farmer (Cuddlebeam)

Patch 0.4 posted up: WIP equipment/food overhaul (variables, maths and new menus placed in). You can now assign diets as X grams of Y, instead of it just being one thing . v0.5 will have it be functional as I put in the numbers and have calculated game balance for the items.

Sorry if this is an obvious question, but I didn't see anything jump out at me when I was scanning through the thread:

Is there a playable demo somewhere you could link us to? If no free version, where can I even buy it? Or can I yet?

-You may get access to the beta + get the full game when it comes out + special route as per the Indiegogo Perk by paying 30 euros to my paypal account Cuddlebeam@gmail.com . Please add your email (gmail preferably) as well.

-There will be a free version (demo), released when the finished game comes out.

-The game isn't finished yet.

AHAHAHA NOPE.

You'd think that would be the case, but keep in mind an average programming project spans months, possibly even years, across multiple files in multiple folders, and possibly across multiple systems once you start doing cross-compatible stuff. Ctrl + Z is only effective for college essays and other small projects where you'll only need to undo the changes of one file in one session.

Really ambitious programming projects require revision control, like Git or Subversion. Sometimes, clients/customers/forum members will request features that require nearly an entire rewrite of a huge chunk of the program, and you'll want to have branches that you can check out and build off of. Heck, sometimes you'll need to rewrite an entire class file just because you're hitting a bottleneck where you've optimized the fuck out of it down to the assembly code itself.

Re: Cow Girl Farmer (Cuddlebeam)

I was referring to doing things on a computer such as 3D animating or writing stories.

Re: Cow Girl Farmer (Cuddlebeam)

I have absolutely nothing important to do this week, aside from coding CGF, so I'll be posting updates daily for those with beta access because I'll be working on it fulltime.

To not bug the people on process too much, I'll post only post here the major changes as they come through.
