Re: What exactly happened on the TGComics forum?

Hello!

I can not believe I am going to post here. I was one of the people who posted on the Bimbo TG thread so if that was what really caused the problem, than I guess I was at the heart of it. I am honestly not sure what was going on in that thread was worthy of shutting the whole forum down. Deleting the thread and taking the time to warn those involved, sure but the whole forum no I am not sure that was the way to go. THAT being said the site does belong to femur and however he chooses to run it is what has to be accepted. Which is part of the problem, Femur mandated that the TGC should be open to all kinds of TG (unlike other sites which restrict this or that based on inane standards), but the loud mouths do not listen.

This is where the TGC thread gets misrepresented -- before it went into melt down I saw no signs that anyone was saying TG bimbo was invalid. The thread was asking about why Bimbo was so common. As more people posted thoughts and theories other people made comment and ask questions, right up until someone used it to accuse another member of being the worst person on the site. THAT is where the thread went wrong.

Guess that's about it.

Re: What exactly happened on the TGComics forum?

It may be his forum but he now has clients (the artists) to consider. The forum is where potential customers go to find out about the product on hand.

Bear in mind, I am not saying he can't make that decision but I would seriously reconsider using TGC as my vendor if I were one of those artists. If it was the way it was before Premium works began being offered, then fair play to him, he can do whatever the fuck he wants and damn the torpedoes.

Re: What exactly happened on the TGComics forum?

Generally, I like having dissenting voices in forums. It keeps forums alive and interesting. However, some of the threads on the TGComics forums got nasty and quick, with accusations, insults, and score settling flying with reckless abandon from both sides of the issue. There will little exchange of ideas.

Though these threads were only a fraction of the total threads, they were prominent and the flame wars have been a reoccurring problem. Femur is a very busy person and I'm guessing he just got tired of seeing rather sensible and interesting topics explode into two sides shouting at each other again and again.

I believe he's shut down the forum before to get people to cool off and I suspect the forum will return again in time.

Re: What exactly happened on the TGComics forum?

I think what femur needs is some moderators to lock threads, warn people about the rules, and so forth. That's how it's done on other fora and I think it works quite well.

I help to moderate the forums for the "Black Mesa" Half-Life 2 modification and this approach works quite well, considering that attracts far less mature people than TGC does.

He seems unwilling to let other people do their jobs. He's also another one who doesn't let anybody help put up content.

There are moderators on the forum, by the way. Why he's not letting them do their job, I have no idea. And if they're not, I have no idea why he's not replacing them.

BTW, closing the forum will NOT end anything. Banning the rabblerousers will.

You keep acting as if the fourms are part of the paid service, but as far as i was aware they are not. The paid service is the comics that are sold on the website.

If the cost in time and/or money spent on a forum can be better invested on advertising, then femur actually owes it to the artiest to do so as to create a better platform to sell comics with.

Now personally I agree in the thinking the message board would benefit femur more if ran properly, and as you stated their is no reason it can not be. The thing is I agree with what your trying to say, but I have to disagree with the arguement your trying to use to justify it.

For all we know a message board could end up being not the right choice for femur at this time from a business point of view.

No. I was with you right up until that point.

When you run a for-profit enterprise, you open yourself to criticism; doubly so when you open avenues of public communication.
Closing down the forums when dissent arises, then using "the cost-benefit ratio was unfavourable" as reasoning, is a cop-out.
It's as much an avenue to avoid explaining oneself now as it was when Bethesda was bought out.

Honestly, the Internet is diversity itself; if you can not or will not allow discussion, or your public representatives - that is, your moderators - to deal with more malicious individuals, you have no business on it.

The same applies to real life; if you close your store every time someone talks shit about you, you'll soon go bankrupt, and deservedly so.

I like femur a lot, hopefully she feels better and re-opens the forums soon.

And then makes another TG Comic

Ehhhh, I do wish her all the best, but I don't see how heavy-handed actions like this are doing her reputation any favors.

Re: What exactly happened on the TGComics forum?

Any mention of bimbo always insights mass shitflinging from the forum goers. They even mention how much they hate bimbo when there's no mention of it all in the thread. "Bimbo" should just be a filtered phrase at this point.

I will never understand people taking this opinion when they're on a porn site.

Re: What exactly happened on the TGComics forum?

All of the forum's threads should be dedicated to true life drama, didn't you know? Because clearly a comics forum is the best place to do that instead of a board dedicated to 'reality'.
