I don't think he was overly angry at that, but at the resulting hate-mail that came in from it.

I have no real say on that matter though. Most of his artwork has been hit or miss for me. Quite a few good ideas, but sometimes elements of a piece got in the way and caused me to not like it. I'm not going to miss him, but I do encourage him to not get discouraged. To quote some oft used phrase, 'As long as there's two people on this Earth, someone is going to want someone else dead,' and to that end people are simply going to hate on you for what you do.

It doesn't paint a really pretty picture of his target audience, either.
I mean, if you're particularly protective of your work (as WIPO and Berne require you to be to claim copyright), that's one thing.
The issue here seems to be that he aggressively pursued copyright infringment, and got death threats because he cut off the suppliers.
That'd be like threatening BustArtist (not comparing quality here, just business models) because he charges for his works and pursues infringers.

Nobody should be surprised - or, worse, committing misdemeanors (not hyperbole, fuckers, look it up) - because he left.
They've only themselves to blame.

Second, why are you saying goodbye to the process community when it was e-hentai that wronged you (or rather the people that emailed you)? Just because 342 people hate your work doesn't mean that EVERYBODY does.

Third, instead of getting offended by people saying "you should be killed for crappy work", just ignore it, and find something to improve in your art. Maybe a bimbo has too much muscle definition? Maybe the pose is too rigid? Maybe the boobs are oddly shaped? Stare hard at your art, and find some way to make it better. I have never seen you ask anyone even once for ways that you could improve. You should try that.

EDIT: Also, not to be mean, but this should probably go in "Flame and Bullshit", since there isn't actually any BE here.

I agree, you are taking the situation way to seriously. An artist has to be able to take criticism of their art or else they will never improve. Not only that, but I hardly think that your reasons merit committing internet harikiri. So someone posted your work on E-hentai. Big deal. They wouldn't have taken the time unless they were trying to archive your work for future reference. I wouldn't be surprised if your work resurfaces long after your self inflicted banishment, anyway, and I'll be glad to be able to see your art recirculating again. But none the less, sorry to see you go. Wish I had a chance to look at your gallery one last time before you pulled the plug.

No, I think he was actually mad at the hatemail more than anything. You can hear that in the tone of his original message. His art was free to begin with, so that alone should not have been the deal breaker for him.

Look at everything he said and you will have to conclude that he just didn't like the disapproving emails and took the whole thing way to hard. Do you guys remember gammarai? or whatever her name was? She pulled a similar stunt because of bad reviews, suffered a stroke, and said "IT'S ALL YOUR PEOPLE'S FAULT" and shut down her site. So when I come across these situations, I just shake my head and say, wtf, artist. wtf.

Not only that, but pulling your site and art is exactly what your haters want anyway. By doing that, your just letting them win. Can't let trolls beat you, man. Stiff upperlip and all that.

Internet is full of idiots and you don't have listen them. Prob sometime i saw your works and mabye i like it or mabye not, but it's only a personal judgment. You don't have to stop your passion, neither if all people of the world dislike it. It's just you.

Re: Closing my Doors

I've already run away once myself, due to constant taking down of that female link picture and over 20 different people threatening me and claiming to be the original artist that created it (which is hilarious because the picture itself was an edit).

Don't let them get you in a funk. I already decided, and thats why I came back. My stuff isnt even good at all. But I decided, you know what?

I DONT GIVE A SHIT WHAT THEY THINK, IMMA DO WHAT I WANT SO DEAL WITH IT

Most of these assholes couldnt even draw a stick figure with tits on it, so just ignore them! Little dogs yapping, trying to make themselves feel like the BIG DOG

Re: Closing my Doors

Amazeroth: Sorry to see you go, seems like I just got back in the community a month ago, and you're already leaving.

Unbarred Sin: At least with Rule 63 Link, you have the nuclear option, assuming Miyamoto-san gives the requisite two shits.

Given that dA is centered in the U.S., and thus is required to comply with U.S. copyright laws (yes, IT PISSES ME OFF when people try to say "that's not so" on X site in Y country, simply because dA is headquartered in the U.S., so they get U.S. laws for compliance issues), it would take quite a long time for dA staff to clean up all the "derivative artwork" were they required to do so. Hell, they might even have to create new positions for the task.

Not that I ever advocate the nuclear option, but ya gotta admit, it'd be fun to watch in a demented sorta way.

Re: Closing my Doors

It's always tough to receive criticism to that degree, but you have to realize that those people don't mean shit to you. You don't owe them anything nor do they to you. As artist we need to take a stand for the kind of work we want to do. That is how we gain respect in this world and continue to be able to share what we love with others.

I don't understand the circumstances to which you had to make this decision, but if it was interfering with your daily life you need build a filter. Whether using another alias, or "starting over" per-say, you should not give up something you enjoy.

At the very least take some time to lay low, reevaluate what you want to do, and hopefully you'll be happy with the decisions you'll be able to make for the future.

Good luck.

Re: Closing my Doors

Amaze, You could do what I do with my Webcomic. Fling up your middle finger, say fuck you and keep doing it despite the bad reviews. IF it's something you enjoy and it IS something you want to do don't let Nay Sayers stop you.

The internet allows people to behave badly because their isn't some organization, really, that's patrolling the nebulous mass and making sure people behave themselves. It's to vast for that. So because of that the people who can act like jackanapes do so and they fly off the handle at the first chance they get.

I bet if you were to meet them in real life they'd be, no offense to the masses here, dickless little boys/men who cry themselves to sleep simply because they're not nearly as talented as you are.

Now that stated, if their were one or two messages in there saying you sucked, and they were able to back up that statement with actual well thought out criticism you should learn from them.

I get a lot of flack every sunday from my writers group cause I'm horrible with grammar. Doesn't stop me from doing what I love to do.

So, just know those of us who like your story, we got your back man.
