Re: Bloomin Faerie
I do not remember Jaycee ever claiming that he lost his job over the comic, that was a conjecture by others. His own words were " I'm leaving a very lucrative job to dedicate myself to writing full time", which is quite different. He also consistently said that his reasons for shutting BF down were "personal" and did not elaborate on the subject. My own understanding is that at some point the comic became a liability, the nature of which I cannot guess.
I am as disappointed as anyone at the comic's abrupt termination. More so than most even, since it not only managed to tickle many of my fancies, I also had a character in it (the lurker) who's story was cut short at the most interesting moment. That said, people seem to forget that Jaycee ran a FREE webcomic, investing his time, effort and money into it. And when he decided to shut it down -- for whatever reasons -- he refunded everybody who paid for membership the full amount of their payment. The guy deserves a "thank you". Peace, Lurker.

Re: Bloomin Faerie
As Lurker said, Jaycee didn't actually say the comic cost him his job. He was worried that it potentially COULD, but that's not the same thing.
And I'd like to point out that I wasn't being particularly harsh. I have objections to his reasons for shutting it down, because they seem very silly and nonsensical, and now that I know that, I don't feel any better than I did when the reasons were a mystery. But it is his comic and his site, and therefore it's his decision; far be it from me to presume to tell him what to do.

Q, that's a better post than what you initially put up.

The "silly and nonsensical reasons" were just a tongue-in-cheek poke at those readers that accused him of it in the strip's comments, as well as a lead-in to the TG transformation. But don't take my word for it, here it is straight from the horse's mouth: No, the "demeaning to women" part is just for the gag, it's not connected to why I shut the comic down. I just thought it was funny. So yes, you have been unnecessarily harsh.

Re: Bloomin Faerie
Why, though? I literally said the same thing minus the sarcasm. In my first post, even though I said I thought the reasons were stupid, I still didn't presume to tell him what to do.

Here's the thing, though. In the comments on that same comic, he did expressly state the thing about how he wants to be a LEGITIMATE WRITER now and so he has to BURN ALL THE SMUT AND BURY THE ASHES (not in so many words, mind). And I think that's just as stupid as if the "demeaning to women" bit had been serious. You can be a legitimate writer and have done smut before. And if you're that concerned about it getting found out, that's what pen names are for. It ain't like my real name is Cezar Nix, ya know... But again, I can respect his right to make a decision. It doesn't actually matter whether I think his stated reason(s) for doing so are stupid, because it isn't my decision to make. If, when my son is an adult, he wants to get a tattoo of Wallace Shawn's face across his entire torso, I won't think it's a very smart decision, but I won't presume to force him not to either. Sorry if you guys think I'm being too harsh, but I calls 'em like I sees 'em. "Real writers shouldn't ever have done any smut" seems ridiculous to me (not to mention a little insulting, given what I do). And it doesn't read remotely like a joke - it seems like he's being serious.

Re: Bloomin Faerie
I figured the "disrespectful to women" bit was tongue in cheek.
