Re: Symbiotes and their ilk

For a subject with such great potential, its kinda sad that so few people seem to show any interest in it, and how symbionts in general get lumped into the "evil creatures" category. I blame the Spiderman series for that (though i still enjoy spiderman), with venom being an evil creature and all. And to hell with Anti-Venom because he/it was only created AFTER they had done a bunch with other venom spin offs. And now thanks to spiderman, everyone thinks only of the goo creatures when someone says symniont.

I wholeheartedly agree, Microme. It's as if no one has thought to do anything truly different with the symbiote concept.

Re: Symbiotes and their ilk

It shouldn't be that hard either. Symbiont appears asking for help, person steps in and offers body as host, symbiont thanks host by altering body in a desirable way for host, etc. Its magical!

Re: Symbiotes and their ilk

Problem with that is that, at least within the Marvel universe, symbiotes are considered parasites. Now, if someone were to, say, come up with a whole other planet where symbiotes actually live up to their namesake, then we can have to potential for new, non-Venom clone characters.

I'm sure a story like that could work, since it'd be just like Iron Man, only with biology instead of technology.

Re: Symbiotes and their ilk

There is room for other symbiotic creatures, but Symbiote in the Marvel universe generaly refers to Venom's species

>Hears the word "symbiote/symbiont"
>Immediately thinks of the Men In Black: The Animated Series symbiote that gave J TF powers

....fund it.

Admittedly, most of it is crap, but nonetheless. I finished a symbiote story myself recently, with illustration. I mentioned it in another thread.

I also have some concept art for a sequence I might or might'nt draw. We'll see.

And then there's the excellent work MG has done.

Re: Symbiotes and their ilk

OK, what the heck is going on with Spider-man right now? Apparently Mary Jane has Spider Powers now? And this month she's turned into Venom too?

The comic's cover for reference, because a comic cover has never lied before:

Also cute how she's taken the name Spinneret, just /barely/ avoiding that trademark confusion.

Re: Symbiotes and their ilk

Just came across this thread, and I have a couple things that I figure are relevant.

It's all based on an enemy from the Shantae video game series called a Slimegal:

I have a small series of pics of a Slimegal forcing herself on Shantae to become a symbiote-like suit. You can find them at the following links:
