Re: Man of Steel Review, Spoiler Free
Halfway through the movie, it changes from a Superman movie to an Invincible movie. And, if anyone here has read that comic, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Well man of steel 2 might not have the action like the first one has because lex luthor will be the villain unless lex goes into his armored suit.

As for Man of Steel, I saw it a couple of days back. I think the only thing I really liked about it was Amy Adams as Lois Lane. She had a cool scene near the end of the movie. Everything else about the movie more or less sucked. The action (which takes a large chunk of the movie to get to) is bland Dragon Ball Z-type fighting that goes on forever, the actor playing Superman is dull save a few Spiderman-esque one-liners, Zod is kind of bland, flashbacks are in awkward places, it drags on scenes way too long, and it's ugly. Even the color of Superman's suit and cape are hideous. I don't understand how you spend $200 million on a movie and make it this ugly. I'd still say it's Zack Synder's best movie since 300, though that's not saying much. |

Re: Man of Steel Review, Spoiler Free
The fight scenes were some of the worst parts for me. No thinking, no attempt to manipulate the action in his favor, no exploitation of knowledge Superman should have had being a native to Earth that Zod wouldn't have.... and the action was close and fast to the point I could not tell who was fighting who! And worse, I was getting BORED. Just END.

Re: Man of Steel Review, Spoiler Free
Angry Joe did a review on the movie...while I don't share his enthusiasm, after seeing the movie a second time it has grown on me a bit more. Is it a cinematic masterpiece? Hell no....but perhaps it's not quite as bad as people make it seem. He makes a valid point about this being an alternate Superman NOT the comic book, and that the DBZ action actually makes sense (and it DOES. This is Superman--an unskilled Superman who has no actual fighting experience, mind you-- fighting an equally powerful foe, what the hell kind of fighting did you EXPECT a slap fight?)

Re: Man of Steel Review, Spoiler Free
The more people make the comparison to Dragonball Z, the less of a Superman movie Man of Steel becomes. Even that's an insult to DBZ, since the majority of the fights take place away from populated areas. And if Superman is such an inexperienced fighter compared to Zod, then how is he still a match for him, let alone to two of his flunkies? Maybe he learned how to fight from Jor-El.exe. I mean, how else does Jor-El know how to fight if he was bred to be a scientist? And how does he and Lara know how to fuck in order to have the first naturally born child in over a thousand years?
And there are much, MUCH better Superman alternatives than this movie. Hell, Invincible, as I mentioned before, is a better Superman, and that books chalked full of over-the-top violence on a city-wide scale. The only reason I have no problem with that (although, some of the gory scenes make me squeamish) is that book's world is set up that way. Man of Steel's world makes me think it would have been a better idea if Kal-El never came to Earth. If you ask me, Bizarro should be in the next movie. He would be the anti-Superman: witty, heroic and colorful. |

This movie was hyped to hell, and I blame Hans Zimmer for making the trailer seem like it was going to be the next Dark Knight. Every recent superhero redo seems to have fallen really short like Hulk.

If this were a DBZ movie, Goku would've let Zod go at the end.

No reason that Zod wouldn't run on the same logic and he was on Earth for a far less amount of time, and therefore wouldn't have absorbed as much of the solar radiation, so his invulnerability/stamina would be far reduced compared to Supermans. I don't think this is a good movie per-say, but it's not quite as bad as people are making it out to be.

Exactly. Superman didn't win because he was smarter, or more courageous, or more righteous. He won because he was stronger than his opponent.
You know what I'd like to see for MoS2? Red Son set in America. Have Supes become the Captain America for the US Military for a few months until he realises what a damned terrible idea that was.

And I do believe Superman would have led them away from Smallville and Metropolis, BECAUSE HE WAS THE ONE THEY WERE AFTER! Blast 'em with some heat vision to lure them away. But no, we have to see shit blow up because they had $225 million to spend. And, as I keep mentioning, Superman contributes to the destruction, and clearly gives no fucks. And Kryptonian air is the kryptonite replacement? Really? Air? And, he couldn't hold his breath to take out the doomsday machine? Just like Nolan's Batman, this Superman isn't not all bright and charges head-first into an ass-whoopin'. |
