I recommend the first one and ZERO in order to get a good understanding of Sayoko and what she does.

My comment about the Sayoko game though.
Wow... does this only have one path? No choices on interaction? No time limits or restrictions, or making decisions with which you can shape the fates of the characters in multiple ways? Well... good thing it's just a side story then.

i think that's WHY they made it a side story instead of a main series game (even YnK Ibunroku had multiple endings, even if they were sequential (meaning you needed the maid ending to get the "starts her own island" ending)
Although to be honest it IS nice not needing to watch the same scene repeat several times to "rank up" (YnK 3 was HORRIBLE about that) though I would like to have seen more depth and interaction between the characters. It was nice that the scenes were a lot longer than usual for YnK games

To make some older games work on Vista you need to activate the compatibilty mode. To do that you do the following:

Right-click on the program's start icon
Click on "Properties" in the menu
Click on "Compatibility"
Tick the box for "Run this program in compatibilty mode", and select "Windows XP" in the menu below it.
Click "Run this program as an administrator"

If the problem is that the program wasn't written with Vista in mind that will sometimes fix it.

I know how you feel...there're a couple H-games I can't get to work for just plain unknown reasons (one has DRM that only lets you play it if your version of windows was purchased in Japan, which is downright illogical for a small potatoes porn company to do, and the other just. won't. work.)
One actually has EC in it (the DRM one), in fact I have a few pictures from it on this computer (and the entire CG set on the one I play H-games on)
It's like the Holy Grail of EC games for me, and it's like I'm not Galahad ;_;

I presume you already know they started making H-anime adaptation of it?
I'm quite the EC stuff will get ignored though which is a huge shame.

yeah, it's sad but the only game with EC in it that got adapted to an anime and kept all the EC in recent memory is/was the Kansen series (which I also adore, even if I wish they'd try to make more than just the same six characters with different names in each one) and they go the bad end route, which is kind of cool as the anime turns out to be like Higurashi or Umineko with sex-"zombies".

Didnt Ikusa Otome Valkyrie anime keep the EC thing going for a while?
The actual ending in the latest adaptation was a bit of shame though.

Kansen is all cool and swell till people start dying, which happens way too much like you said.
I've seen only one of Kansen OVA's so I'm surprised at the Higurashi/Umineko thing as I presume you mean things get rewinded back.

EDIT: Even sex-"zombies" are somewhat better than getting raped by goatmen.

Yeah, the first episode focuses on short-haired girl archetype and the second episode focuses on longer-haired girl archetype.
There's at least one episode of the second game, too.
Both of them are significantly different from the games, however. The second game is like Dawn of the Dead with sex-zombies, while the anime is...not. Sure it takes place in a mall, but without the "actually using features of the mall for/against the main characters" stuff, it's just not the same.
Which is a shame, because the second game was actually pretty good in the way the story was presented (if you play through normally, you won't have any idea what's going on with short-haired girl archetype until you play through a second time.)

And yeah Ikusa Otome Valkyrie had EC in it, but only Neko Saffron managed to tell a good EC version of that story other than the game

True that, I personally disliked the character design changes in the anime but at least Leia donning the dark valkyrie armor for the first time was great.

Neko Saffron needs to activate himself and release something new during summer comiket.
