As was bringing back Jean Grey in the mid-late 80's to take advantage of the mutant comics craze. Why they didn't just have the Phoenix force resurrect her (it is called the Phoenix force after all) I don't know, unless they wanted Jean "unsullied" for the re-banding of the original X-Men in "X-Factor".
