Cream Lemon OVA #33, "Magic City Astaroth". Not technically EC, or at least it's physical only, as explained here: http://www.process-productions.com/f...postcount=1984 A heroine's body is remolded into an evil demonic form, but at the same time her soul is extracted into a globe and left uncorrupted, then a demoness moves in and takes possession. I'm comfortable with anything from 2 to 10 and maybe even 11.

This deserves a place here. Been a long time since I've seen a good fallen angel sequence...

Visually, yes, but for me it's like getting a silver medal instead of a gold. If you're going for corruption why not go that little bit further? Still, I suppose there must be people who find possession more interesting than EC, theme-wise. Last edited by Mazoku; 12-12-2011 at 05:29 PM. |

Okay, I watched it.
It's kind of a bummer how (as far as I could tell) her possessed body was just destroyed and she's basically dead. Still hot, though. Last edited by Voltronzilla; 12-12-2011 at 05:21 PM. |

EC in media history! Let's dig into the archives and the recesses of our (post nightmare fuel trauma) psyches and find some ancient history... I know EC transformations were big in the early Kamen Rider sentai series in the 70's. Definitely builds in the '80's where horror and experimental animation start to rise in anime. Saturday Morning cartoons had their moments too (He-Man episodes "To Save Skeletor" and the "She-Demon of Phantos")

Re: Evil conversion(for the lack for better term)
I think every super hero show has had at least one episode with brainwashed heroes (if you want a progenitor then Super Friends' Dracula episode probably pre-dates everything else); it kind of goes with the genre. It was just a crap shoot whether or not a female character would get picked for the episode, and it would be uncommon only because the law of averages doesn't favor the small female casts those shows would have.
I'd be interested if there's been noticeable trends in the popularity of brainwashing vs mind control. Brainwashing is kind of an inherently silly concept invented by hollywood, like amnesia, so I wonder if it's waned in use over the years in lieu of more "realistic" approaches.

Re: Evil conversion(for the lack for better term)
Brainwashing is still in use, but it's harder to notice because, in order to do it RIGHT, it takes more time and effort than strapping someone to a table and injecting them with magic.
In reality "brainwashing" does exist, but the process involves ALLOWING the subject free will, and it's very important that they not be aware of the process. Therefore, in a black and white morality universe where the good guys KNOW the bad guys are completely in the wrong from the get go, no one is truly able to be brainwashed because they'd inevitable be forced to do something that goes completely against their character. This is why mind control, possession, and forms of corruption are common in super hero genres. On the other hand, in a more morally gray setting, where the heroes can be real jerks and the villains can be cheerful and friendly, it's possible for a villain to show a hero "hey, y'know what? We may be trying to take over the world, but at least we treat our soldiers like people! Want a cupcake?" Over time, they hang out and the hero betrays the jerks he/she once called friends in favor of the villain. Whether or not the villain remains nice, however, is up to the setting. A good example would be Faith from Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Mayor was evil and doing evil things, but he was nice to her and treated her in such a way that she was willing to kill for him. |

Re: Evil conversion(for the lack for better term)
Faith is actually a bad example, she wasn't brainwashed or mind controlled, she had here own dark urges encouraged and made the choice to be bad. The Mayor didn't brainwash her, he simply helped her to embrace her dark side.
Brainwashing implies forcibly altering someones way of thinking, in reality intense physical and/or psychological torture is used to brainwash people. To brainwash someone you have to mentally tear them down in some way. Charlie Manson is a real life brainwasher, he physically and sexually dominated his followers as well as fed them with psycho active drugs to demolish there mental defenses. They did not chose to become murders, they became murders because Manson decided they would be. |

Re: Evil conversion(for the lack for better term)
Nice to see some more in-depth discussion. Can't think of anything to add myself at the moment.
Couple of things here I'm not sure about: 1) Witchblade issue 128, looks like it may have been corruptiony, anyone know? 2) Glissa Sunseeker from Magic the Gathering, apparently underwent some sort of corruption to become Glissa the Traitor. Possibly from the artifacts she sought out and destroyed. Last two pics are a couple of random ones. Last edited by Mazoku; 12-13-2011 at 11:44 PM. |
