If I recall it was more in the realm of Jigoku Shoujo, punish evil people/help good people over come bad things, than actually her turning "evil"

I have a question. What's with the blue skin = evil in Japanese comics? Is it derived from some ancient legend of theirs or something?

I'd guess offhand it's a reference to Oni, which IIRC come in either red skin or blue skin. I could be entirely wrong, however.

Yeah oni would be my first guess. Sort of red skin for demon in western references.

Other than that I'd just say aesthetics. Popularity too, consider Astaroth (from Shinrabasho) seemed to kick off the blue succubi in those recolor edits.

Most image editing software has a handy swap red/blue feature and Japanese corruption artists tend to be extraordinarily lazy.
