The She-Hulk Diaries
Hi there,
In a surprising turn, I happened upon this by accident and yet discovered that it was available earlier in June of this year. Seemingly a natural candidate for the Growth forum, as with other associated She-Hulk material, I post this here as the work touches upon other subjects, as well as being more singularly dilute. Though I can't honestly say that I have read the book as yet, I will afford a critical summary, which should give some insight into this interesting work. The novel The She-Hulk Diaries by Marta Acosta is a new, and seemingly unprecedented, work concerning Jen Walters/She-Hulk, though subject to a notable difference of continuity and texture. In what could be described as Bridget Jones meets Ally McBeal, this novel is a seeming adaptation of the Dan Slott perspective, as opposed to latter appearances, with a few notable distinctions; the most particular being that the duality of Jen and SH is given more realization and exploration as a node of the story, akin to the earlier incarnations. Considered as an ambitious attempt by Marvel to break into the "Chick-Lit" market and expanding reception amongst female fans, the story attempts to afford a insight into the emotional, everyday complexion of Jen Walters/She-Hulk, as conflated with the more recognisable callings of her super heroine status. Though reception, both casual and more critical, has been varied from the original intent, this book does seem like a interesting variation on the norms of the Jen/SH narrative and in a format which, to my and other's knowledge, was principally found in the fandom, when ranged against anything official. To be brief, this work is a interesting new perspective on the characters and a somewhat neglected aspect of that nature, though this will be tempered by your liking for what is an adapted vision of Slott's era, which I know from experience some can think to be a bit unfocused. The book can be found on Amazon.com below. http://www.amazon.com/The-She-Hulk-D.../dp/1401311016 Thanks again, Alchemical Night. |

Re: The She-Hulk Diaries
Read it awhile back when it first came out.
It's.... well... no better or worse than any example of paranormal romance. Its cliche, sappy and pretty much fails at inspiring interest in the character for non-fans. As for the TFs, which is the main area Shulkie's online fandom focused on, they are brief and workman-like. The divide between Jen and Shulkie mimics the common online fetish concept of She-Hulk, but it doesn't go anywhere really.
