Re: Xil posted a new test video
I can't believe you saw it already - I only posted it 30 seconds ago!
BTW, on my browser the link shows up as a large empty box - can someone help me out and tell me what i'm doing wrong? I've tried to edit it several times, but it keeps coming out funky. |

Re: Xil posted a new test video
Impressive. I don't think I've seen anyone try this before. I notice the make up, is she a Trill from Star Trek?
Since it's a test video, are you still tweaking this? If so, here are some deep-techie thoughts: - The distance between Jane and the camera is shrinking along with Jane, so logically the camera is moving forward a bit. But I think you may have overdone it - The wall seems to approach her. This is actually a perfect place for the Vertigo effect, where the camera simultaneously dollies in and zooms wide. Hence the background plate would move further away instead. Technically wrong, but psychologically perfect. - Jane's CGI hands and her sleeves seem to be moving in slow motion. You might slow down the video of her head to match this, or adjust the hands to move faster. Human limbs are like pendulums in that the smaller they are, the faster they move. Good luck, and thanks! |

Re: Xil posted a new test video
I like the approach to it, but the only problem I have that breaks the immersion is that the collar of the shirt is completely static, and doesn't shift around at all when she turns her head.
In a scene like that, the main focus areas are of course, the head and hands, but I found myself looking almost solely at the head, because for me (like many, I would imagine), the emotion of the shrinkee is just as important as the shrink itself. I don't have the technological knowledge to suggest a way to improve it, but I figured I'd at least share my thoughts on where the attention is drawn, etc. |

Re: Xil posted a new test video
This video is a rough approximation of what Xil can do if he gets this motion capture software we've been eyeing. It's a bit pricey, though. I do agree it looks pretty awesome, especially given that nobody is doing something like this.
I can pass along you guys' suggestions to him, but it won't do any good until we have the software; Xil said this 30-second video took nearly 10 hours of work, I don't think he's able to do that on a regular basis. Oh, and Sai: Those spots are actually Jane's newest tattoos. No idea if she was intentionally going for the Trill look, but you're not the first person I've heard make the comparison.

Re: Xil posted a new test video
An interesting video for sure, I'd be very interested if pants were a possibility. One of my favorite scenes would have to be a woman coming out of her now giant shirt. Am I wrong to think that could be possible? I figure this sort of thing could work to represent scale better; a sheet works when the camera is up close as she emerges, but I think you could use this to up the detail and she'd be able to read the tag on her shirt, and with the right textures it could look pretty legit.
Oh, and qzar: One thing that would be sweet if you and/or xil could do would be to have a larger chunk of the start of the SW vids would be to have more 'live' video, not the actress in front of the screen through the whole vid- then you could have some interaction with props, etc. and then the background for the green screen could just be photos of whatever 'set' she was in at the beginning, for continuity. I know xil did some poser backgrounds to try to do this, but it seems he stopped and I don't blame him since it's hard to get the angle right and make it look good. Poser does clothes great but objects/scenes look like stuff I did in my high school computer graphics class, and while I enjoyed the vid (I think it was Angelina or someone) the poser background took me out of it. Anyway I'm rambling, but more comparisons and practical effects would be awesome. |

That would be great, but he keeps posting how the equipment keeps breaking. What is he doing with it?
