I've modified the question a bit for this particular forum but the gist is the same. Thanks for voting or giving input. It'll help me out with my future endeavors.

So here's my question:

Many readers prefer their erotic stories to get to the point quickly, where the sex act (or transformation) happens at least 2-4 pages in. They read the comic for the sex/fetish/tf and not so much for things like plot and characterization. If the main characters aren't doing the nasty by the fifth page or thereabouts they tune out and find something else to read.

Other readers prefer erotic stories that allow for things like plot, motivation and logic. They're turned off by stories where characters who have only just met inexplicably engage in sex (or people transform for flimsy, illogical reasons). They're willing to wait for the writer to flesh out the story and make the sexual encounters (or transformations) more plausible. Well, what kind of reader are you. There's no right or wrong.
Neither, tbh.

Sometimes it's nice to just read a story where the plot is kept to a minimum and really only serves to set up the next erotic scene. And then again, sometimes it's fun to get invested in a story where the plot is enthralling and deep, and the erotic stuff is built up to or only hinted at.

Same goes for creating such content; sometimes I just want to write TF pron, so to speak, and sometimes I feel like writing a narrative. *shrugs* Basically, whatever I'm feeling like at the moment and have time for.

Re: New Poll Question Re: Erotic and Fetish Comics

At the very least, I want to like the characters who are undergoing the transformations.

That being said, I can think of a handful of stories/comics that I paid money for where I absolutely despised the characters and the world they live in. One in particular where the explanation of how and why characters are what they were left such a bad taste in my mouth that I no longer care for what the creator did afterward.

Ideally every page should be engaging.

Pretty much what Obsidian said.

I read erotica for naughty bits, and those are the bits I zero in on when I go back to a favorite story, but I'm always up for a good yarn. Give me a reason to care and I'll give you my attention.

It's not so different from other genres. How do you keep sci-fi readers interested when SCIENCE isn't happening? fantasy when swords aren't swinging and sorceries aren't scorching? action when explosions exploding explosions!!!? Make us put our dicks down and turn the page.

Re: New Poll Question Re: Erotic and Fetish Comics

I prefer longer narratives personally... I voted for the 10+

But that's not to say each work has to be an epic undertaking. I do like a few quickies depending on my mood. It really depends on the sotry.

What's going to kill me, and I'm going to use DT's stuff as an example since I buy a lot of DreamTales. Is making the transformations plausible. For instance in Beach Blanket Beauties II (Spoilers) the age ray suddenly turns into a shrink gun as well. Process for process sake is OK, but as a reader I'm quickly pulled out of a story if suddenly the mcguffin can do insert blank as well. Now, I don't want pages or even paragraphs of extra just a silly line of Star Trek Dialogue line can sometimes solve the problem. "Oh, I inverted the phase polarity on the mcguffin's flux capicator." It also depends on the type of process that the story is using.

The stories I write tend to be very long, 300+ pages, but I tend to lose steam and never finish them or never think they're good enough to share with others. This is mostly because I try to create a world, rules and characters that will be affected by Plot/Process and trying to keep everything interesting, like even a non erotic novel, can be a mentally consuming task, for me at least. The process/porn is central to the movement of the stories when I write, but I don't let "X's boobs get bigger here" if action beat it doesn't make sense. I've found, for myself, a process change every chapter, which in my case chapters are 5K to 30K words, is good pacing.

Just my two cents. The best thing you can do, tell the best story you can. Accept the criticism you get and just try to grow from that.

I need to second this.

I'd say focus on writing a good story.
Think about pacing, (in my opinion) thats the most important aspect of Erotica. Paragraphs that are too short hinder a scene's buildup.

A giant block of text that's over 20 lines long is like a brick to the groin.

Best of luck...

But seriously where are people writing BE fiction anymore.

Re: New Poll Question Re: Erotic and Fetish Comics

Honestly....most of my concepts are designed for visual mediums, like comics. I've got some story ideas, but I'm kinda crazy about wanting to see the concepts actually visualized. I mean, I know I can imagine it...and I always do obviously, but thinking about seeing them in a particular art[ists] style really helps me out.

That said, I prefer erotic/sexy or weird....without being specifically sexual for a variety of reasons - and I think my commissions cover that pretty well - haven't received any "I was cheated" comments...but I don't receive that many comments to begin with.

Some of my comics ideas really are getting longer and longer as I try to fit elements into place just so - and sometimes because I like things to be a little too incremental or to show too many characters and elements, etc. We'll see how the next few ideas turn out...but right now they're just growing.

edit...in general I prefer to make my characters generally likeable...but like with Danielle in "Long Weekend" - if she's somewhat disagreeable, it can make the end result a little more "interesting" or "turnabout is fair play" sort of thing.

As a reader, I feel like if the basic story is good, I'll read as long as it takes. As a writer, I try to sprinkle in little "hints" of what is to come to build the anticipation.

^ OhYeah this to some degree. I'm actually a little more impatient with RPs.

Re: New Poll Question Re: Erotic and Fetish Comics

Depends on a few factors. Sometimes, I'm impatient as a reader and just want to read the TF scene with minimal buildup. Sometimes, I need the buildup to enjoy the TF so that it's all in context.

There's also a matter of the quality of the author. I'm not going to read a ten-page long story that's poorly written, but I might read a poorly written two-page story. On the other hand hand, if the author's really good at their craft, I'll read the story regardless of its length.
