Getting Small at the Mall / Short Story
Long time lurker. First time poster. Felt inspired and wanted to share. Open to criticism. Just writing for fun. Some non-con trigger warning perhaps? Otherwise enjoy!
-------------------- Stacy was tall and she loved to flaunt it. 6’4 without heels on, she would tower over most men that her dating app would match her up with. Of course it didn’t matter that she specified that her dates must be tall and grilled them on it before agreeing to a date because all of them lied about it. Yes, some were charming and cute but there was just something off about them being shorter than her. After another failed Friday night date, she decided to spend her Saturday on some shopping therapy. As the day was warm a simple green and blue sundress that came down to the middle of her thighs and a pair of blue high heels. Small purse in hand and her hair in a ponytail, she soon was browsing the mall. Finding nothing of interest in the first few stores the nearby food court called out. The smell of pepperoni pizza lured her, and soon a large slice and a drink are in her hands. As she is finding a seat a voice calls out to her. “Hey Stacy! How are you doing?” Locating the male voice calling out to her she recognizes Jim. She had a date with him about a month ago. While he was nice but he was also the worst liar about his height. He had assured her that he was over 6 foot tall but he was clearly only 5’5 or 5’6. Trying to be nice she smiles. “Hi Jim. I am doing alright. Just grabbing a bite.” To emphasize this she takes a large bite. Jim just smiles and launches into awkward conversation mode. “So you here by yourself? If so want to go see a movie together?” Holding up a finger, she makes him wait until her mouth is empty. “Thanks for the invite but I’m busy.” She tries to smile at him to be polite. Glancing around he continues, “Are you meeting someone?” “No, I just have other plans for today. Thanks though.” “What about sometime next week.” He asks with a hopeful smile. Frustrated with the interruptions and the fact that her pizza is getting cold, she turns and glares at him. “Listen, we had a great date and you are a nice guy, but I just don’t think we are right for each other.” “Is it the height thing? I told you I corrected it on my profile after you mentioned it on our date.” She grimaced as it had brought up on their date because she was a miffed at him for lying. “Well, I really dislike lying and minor lies can lead to bigger lies.” “You just don’t want to give a short guy a chance.” He snips as his voice raises a little. “I just don’t respect liars.” Her voice raises as well and several of the other patrons start to look at them. Jim looks around uncomfortably noticing the attention they were drawing. “Well if you change your mind you have my number.” He smirks as he walks away. “Flagged as ignore in my phone.” She muses to herself as she goes back to her pizza. Her hair oddly feels loose so after wiping the grease off of her hands she redoes her black hair in a ponytail. Standing up causes her to wobble as both shoes are loose as well. “Odd. Maybe I should go shoe shopping.” Grabbing her purse and throwing away her trash, she makes her way to a nearby shoe store. Grabbing a cute pair in her normal size she tries them on. They are loose as well. Grabbing a pair the next size smaller fits. She walks to a mirror to look at the while mentally thinking how odd this is. Her hair escapes again causing her to pause to redo it making the tie even tighter this time with an extra loop. When she turns to walk back to the chair where she left her shoes she wobbles again. “Why are these loose already?” She looks down and notices her dress is closer to her knees as well. Looking around there isn't any other shoppers in the store and the clerk is sitting behind the counter on her phone. Sitting down she checks her old shoes. They are several sizes too large now. Checking discreetly, her bra and panties also have a lot of slack in them but are hanging on for now. Sacred, she sits there thinking for minute. “This is not possible. It’s like I am getting smaller? Shrinking? This can’t be happening!” A chirp from her purse breaks the silence. She pulls out her cell phone and there is a text from -- Ignore --Like the new view on life?-- --Jim? What how?-- --I told you I did R&D during our date. Or did you think that was a lie too.-- --IF YOU ARE DOING THIS TO ME I WILL CALL THE COPS.-- He stops responding to her texts. If she goes to the cops would they believe her? She doesn’t really have any evidence and that is probably why he stopped texting. How is he doing this though? She can’t just wait here. She decides to hurry to her car. Even though it is across the mall he shouldn’t make her that much smaller in public right? Maybe it is a good thing to lose a few inches even if it means a new wardrobe. If he does stalk her she can call the cops there and get a restraining order against him. Standing up she watches the windows. She doesn’t see Jim and her dress is staying the same length. Grabbing a pair of cheap flip flops, and keeping an eye on the windows, she approaches the counter. The clerk begrudgingly puts her phone down and rings her up. Slipping them on and putting her older, larger heels in the bag she cautiously peeks out of the store. Scanning both directions she does not see Jim. Walking with a bit more confidence but still keeping an eye out she marches past four stores when her hair tie unravels again and falls off, and she feels her panties sliding down her legs. Panicking and clutching her panties through her dress, she ducks into the nearest store front, which is a teen clothing store with blaring music. Quickly she ducks into a changing room in the back. As soon as she lets go to lock the door behind her, the dark blue panties slide down to her ankles. “This is getting ridiculous.” She mutter as she picks them up and put them in the bag with her shoes. Looking at herself in the mirror, she can tell she has lost over a foot. Her once cute dress now hangs on her and looks dangerously close to slipping off while her loose bra pokes out awkwardly. She digs her cell cell phone out of her purse amazed and scared how it feels larger and heavier. Angrily she texts Jim. --Stop this or reverse this or I will call the cops.-- --Go ahead.-- Sighing she calls 911. “911 what is your emergency.” “Yes, I am at the mall and there is man stalking me.” “Have you contacted mall security?” “No, I didn’t feel safe so I am hiding in a changing room.” “Well ma’am you should call them first and they should be able to escort you to your car. If he follows you after that please call us back.” The dispatcher ends the call abruptly. Angry and near tears she pulls up the number for mall security off their website. It rings to voicemail right away. Trying several times with no further success she gives up. Sitting there she feels a little defeated until she remembers that stores have back doors. Standing up and with a fresh determination to get out she decides to head to her car that way. Cracking open the changing room door, she checks the windows first. She still does not see Jim and after a scan of the shop all of the employees seem busy. She quickly heads to the open door in the back of the shop. There is a crowded inventory space that is thankfully empty of any other employees. The glowing exit sign above the large back door fills her with hope and she opens it to a long, empty corridor that runs behind the shops. Her flip flops echo loudly as she walks quickly towards the other end of the mall. Noting the signs on the doors, she passes one labeled Mall Access. As she hurries on it opens and Jim steps into the hall behind her. The sound of the door closing catches her attention. She glances over her shoulder and sees Jim pointing something at her. Screaming, she breaks into a run. After just several steps, her flip flops get heavy on her feet and the toe grip starts to get too large to fit between her toes. Her dress slides down her legs to her ankles while the arm straps slide off of her shoulders. The bag with her purse, shoes, and panties starts getting very heavy and knocks her off balance. She tumbles to the floor awkwardly and pulls the fabric of her dress up to cover her exposed breasts. Chuckling and with a smile on his face Jim slowly walks closer. Stacy pulls herself up to her full height of about 3 feet to glare at him while wrapping the extra large dress around herself. “Why are you doing this to me? This is not fun! Change me back now!” Jim looks down at her. “It is fun for me. I get to see a big tall woman learn some humility. Plus the weekend has just started and I want to get to know you better.” He holds out what looks like a extra long remote and pushes a button. Stacy’s eyes go wide as the fabric around her starts getting heavier and wider. Trying to shift to cover any remaining dignity she trips over her bra causing her to tumble into the pile of fabrics. Jim leans down and moves the dress out of the way exposing her laying there about a two feet tall. “Please stop!” She squeaks. “I will do anything you want.” Jim smiles. “We will talk about that at my apartment.” The remote is back pointed at her and things return to getting larger around her. She sits in the left cup of her bra about 6 inches tall sobbing while Jim picks up her bag and clothes. He carefully but quickly covers her with the other cup and picks her up. Trapped in her own bra she is added to the bag and Jim calmly walks out of the mall and to his car. |

I felt kind of sorry for her by the end, but it was pretty well written.
Thanks 😃

Re: Getting Small at the Mall / Short Story
Yeah.. I was going to make Stacy meaner at to give Jim more justification at first, but I just didn't like the dialogue. So it morphed into this. Thanks for reading!

Re: Getting Small at the Mall / Short Story
Okay, so. First of all, let me commend you on making it over the big hurdle: your story isn't chock-full of spelling errors and run-on sentences. I've seen way too many first-timers post barely coherent walls of text. So congrats on getting the basics down early. Now:
+ Not a bad concept, especially for just starting out. + Decent descriptions of the changes as she's shrinking. - Needs work on the grammar. Among other things, you started in past tense and switched to present. I'll tell you straight up that past tense is usually best, especially when you're first starting out. Present is harder to write and often doesn't sound as good. - Some of the sentences don't really "flow," if you get me. There are places where the story sentences or the dialogue sound kind of stilted. It's a promising first story. Keep working on your craft.

I honestly read that as "I am not an atheist" for a second.
Serious WTF moment.

Re: Getting Small at the Mall / Short Story
I feel sorry for Stacy.
Okay, she has rejected a guy but that's not a reason to hunt her down that badly. I wish this Jim had a better motive. What I've missed was how Jim could use this remote without getting noticed by Stacy. Another thing I've missed, did Jim expected her at the mall, or was it coincident. But now to the good parts: I've liked the description of her slowly shrinking and how more and more her clothes became baggy. As a reader I could imagine how it would be into Stacy's skin right now. The smartphone messaging added the creepy factor who shrunk her. This was a really nice short story, unfortunately without a happy end. But nonetheless I have enjoyed reading it. Thank you for sharing. Greetings Captain Ash
