Dragonball Z Battle of Gods AR

I finally got around to watching it and yeah.

An off-Screen AR.

I will assume you are Dragonball fans so no detailed explanation.

Empror Pilaf and his 2 henchmen Shu and Mai appear in the movie and it appears they did make a wish to the Dragon after the events of Z to make themselves young.

Shenlong made the 3 a tad too young and turned them into children.

Trunks develops abit of a crush on Mai in the movie.

Mai in Dragonball:

An Age-Regressed Mai in the movie:

Her first appearance is at the 27:00 mark.

And she a good amount of screentime and lines in the movie.

Check out 38:35, hehe.

But yeah if you're a Dragonball fan, the movie is definitely worth the watch.

Bills is cool!

Yes. Young Mai was definitely cute in the movie, and I think she makes a great couple with Trunks. Since she must've wasted most of her life under Pilaf without ever having a decent romance, she deserves a second life.

I also agree that Bills is awesome.

Though it never explains how the next time we see them they are ancient...unless Pilaf botched another wish.

You are talking about them in the GT series, right? The movie had caused a huge controversy regarding that. In GT, Pilaf trio have naturally aged into becoming very old, whereas Trunks has just become a teen. However, the controversy ended as the author of the DBZ confirmed that GT was a non-canon spin-off to DBZ. This means what happened in the movie is the true route instead and won't connect to GT.

I never got that... was there some duration where Toriyama's purported connection to that series was non-trivial, of which I was previously unaware?

That's hysterical - GT itself was supposedly pretty crappy and now it's been spin-kicked out of canon by bit characters that haven't been around since the 80's and 90's.

Having the original mangaka disclaim any responsibility for your series will do that.

Yeah, that's why I like the webcomic Dragon Ball Multiverse. The guys who started it based it on GT NEVER HAPPENING but still managed to rope in several of the side-movies DBZ spawned and have done a pretty decent job at keeping the whole thing true to Toriyama's style and storylines that the alternate universes all spawned from (my favorite is the universe where Goku never got amnesia as a baby from hitting his head, and thus remained a ruthless Saiyen that wiped out humanity until Raditz picked him up 20yrs later).

They even showed their comic to Toriyama and he apparently wasn't disappointed by its plot or anything. Though at one point he pointed to a picture of Vegito and asked who it was, to which the artist and writer gawked and asked how Toriyama could forget about his own character. Toriyama's response was basically "Give me a break, that was over 15 years ago..."

Toriyama doesn't have a lot of love for DBZ, does he?
