I'd say stick to the way things were playing out. A combat system would have some additional ways to make things intresting, but I think in the long run, people would enjoy the game just the same without it.

Yeah, no combat system. Too much work. I'd rather make the game better in other ways.

Progress is good.

I mean, how am I supposed to fap and fight?!

Seriously though, the way things are right now works really well. It's fast, fair and fun.

hmm, battle screen, huh? Although i'm prefer battle screen, but i know it is a lot of pain to work, so just continue like for now.

The real time fight (avoid), i don't have time to read the text because it is too fast to change with every step haha...

Seriously, good luck for this project, Ric... I really enthusiastic with the update

One more thing: If there is no battle screen, then it is difficult to make a party fight, right? Then the made over skill is maybe a bit difficult to realize.

Keep the battle system missing at the present time. It can be added in later, and battles like the one with Catgirl-Leader work best, in my opinion.

If you keep fights like the one with Catgirl Rosa, you might want to add something that tells you what to do first. I figured it out pretty quick but I wasn't sure what was really going on, and I don't think many people would think to push those hearts around. ^.^;;

You could always do a real-time collision-based battle system like Ys I and II...

It'd fit with the way things currently work, for the most part, and it'd probably require minimal additional coding.

If you haven't played Ys I and II by now after they've been ported to PC (ages ago) and Nintendo DS (recently) then you probably should :|

But as far as an actual turn-based RPG system goes, I'd say avoid that like the plague. The last thing we need are frustrating battles and such taking away from the focus of the game. If I want to grind, I'll play Disgaea.

EDIT: What I mean is... In Ys I & II, to fight enemies, you basically just push up against them, and so long as you're pressing against their back/sides, you'll do damage and push them back, but if you collide with their front, they'll strike you instead. So basically it just involves manuevering yourself to attack enemies from their flanks and avoid colliding from the front. It sounds boring, talking about it, but it's really not. I really suggest you just play the games, they're not long and they're a LOT of fun. And who knows, you might get some inspiration...

Unfortunately, I have to rescind my offer to contribute, for now. I'll be working longer hours at work for a while -- not yet sure how long -- and I don't think I'll have sufficient time to invest. Sorry about being so useless.

I remember this game... that type of system may be a good idea. Good thinking, Keichan. Obviously, there may be some kinks with RM2k3, and there will always be non-collision attacks.

Just to give a little hint (most of my progress is on weekends) but the new monsters are vastly improved over the catgirls (which can be somewhat buggy).

This video is actually of the version I was referring to, the PC version. It also contains actual gameplay, rather than just the intro. Also, no annoying voiceover.

EDIT: Yeah, now that I'm watching it, I'm realizing... can you even move diagonally in RPGMaker?
