sodacat writes things
I've been trying off and on to finish writing something for years. I finally managed to. Maybe it's something in the water.
You may have noticed I left a story on the request board half finished. I'll probably return to that in a few days, but for now here's a totally different story. It's about 17th century pirates and features a shark transformation. If anyone doesn't want to download PDF files (and I do not blame you, I'd upload docx or odt if it would let me) then I have also uploaded this and will upload all future stories to my Deviantart and Furaffinity accounts.

Does the ship dump the pirates, then jump both them and the shark?
Dammit, sodacat, I'm sorry I started this. ![]() |

Re: sodacat writes things
Sorry for having no idea of what "jumping the shark" means but surely it must be a funny slang. Just finished reading the working story and I have to say I get impressed very easily. As much as I wish I knew about the setting of "17th century pirates" I actually don't so anything an author tells me is actually coherent, but ranting asside I did like the story and the transformation scene although some parts felt a little disjointed as if the time had stopped to wait for the captain to tranform. Also I know some people will bash me for that but I still like the idea of the legs turning into the tail, sue me.

Re: sodacat writes things
Well I thought it was an interesting concept. Back story on Marion would be nice, like just how does someone acquire the ability to turn into a shark at will? Also a bit more description couldn't hurt, for instance though she stripped down naked I don't think there was any mention of how her figure looked, breast size, was she curvy, thin etc? The breaking bones during the transformation was something I didn't expect, also it didn't seem particularly painful for that to happen to her as one might expect it would be. Lastly, (and only because it's a shark transformation that dealt with details of changing bone structure) I was somewhat disappointed that no transition from boney skeleton to cartilaginous skeleton took place. I still thought it was good though.

Re: sodacat writes things
Thanks for the feedback both of you. I suppose I should have called this story an introduction, because I do have ideas for a follow up that would explain a bit more about Marion, her world, and set her against an antagonist on equal footing. Looking back on it some parts of the transformation do kind of seem like I was just going down a checklist, so I will try to work more of making it feel less stilted.
Also for the record Marion is both shark and human, which is why she doesn't grow hair while human and has bones while a shark. I also kind of skimped on that because I have no idea what the properties of a shark's cartilage are.

Asside from weight and malleability I can think of nothing else. Dolphins can stil kick a shark's ass at precize swimming and they have bones and also need to take a breath once in awhile, but sharks still are the kings/queens of speed.

Re: sodacat writes things
I don't know about all sharks, but a tuna at 40mph can easily beat a great white's top speed of 28mph. Looks like swordfish can hit 60mph too.
